Can you park on a single white line?
Discussion
I guys,
So for work, I have always parked around the corner on a side road as I dont want to pay £5 a day parking in the car park.
Yesterday when I pulled up, I noticed the road had been painted in white lines right where I used to park.
There are no signs up to say you can park here between certain times etc...
I have attached some photos below of what im talking about.
Am I ok to park on this line (obviously not over the dropped curb). The best info I could find was this...
https://www.gov.uk/waiting-and-parking/parking-239...
Thanks!

The fact that there are spaces marked would probably indicate that parking on the lines is discouraged.
I wouldn't park on them if it were me
That was my worry. I have parked on it today and will take a walk round there at lunch to see if anyone else has parked there or if i have a ticket lol but from what I have read so far, it is just to try and discourage people parking there and is no law to say I cant but would like to be sure if I am going to be doing it everyday!I wouldn't park on them if it were me

Could rack up a rather large fine otherwise lol
Parking on single white lines
If the road has a continuous single white line running along the left side, parking is considered legal but in some cases may be used to discourage parking – though this is subject to localised laws such as no parking enforcement signs or other such prohibited parking markings. Other such issues could also raise potential legal issues such as parking in front or a dropped kerb (see dropped kerb parking laws), private driveway, too close to a junction for example, but generally these are separate issues in their own right.
However, in certain cases the single white line represents that there is no pavement – if this is the case then it would be illegal to park on a single white line. Such locations can often be areas where no street lighting is available and the continuous white line is used to define the edge of the carriageway.

Isn't it indicating where your parking might be considered an obstruction, so youd come under legislation for obstruction
They've been a tad over zealous with it, maybe they had a drum of white paint that was about go off
Haha, i thought the same thing to be honest. they have taken so many spaces and it goes all round the corner and up a few more roads. There used to be cars all the way up and down before and there was never any problems. Just occasionally have to wait for a car to come through. They've been a tad over zealous with it, maybe they had a drum of white paint that was about go off

Stupid white paint ¬¬

It's not continuous. It's illegal to park where there is no pavement? If the road has a continuous single white line running along the left side, parking is considered legal but in some cases may be used to discourage parking – though this is subject to localised laws such as no parking enforcement signs or other such prohibited parking markings. That interesting!
I have always parked somewhere else, whenever I saw a single white line, as I thought (mistakenly it seems) that it was a restriction.
I don't see them often, just in residential areas.
Yeah, i think thats the idea!I have always parked somewhere else, whenever I saw a single white line, as I thought (mistakenly it seems) that it was a restriction.

Just deters people parking there because they think they cant (seems to have worked with you and all the people who used to park here because no one is doing it... YET)
I think its okay as long as its not ever a dropped curb or has a sign up saying you can or cant park during certain times
