I saw a couple of cars clamped recently.
One was in one of the local car parks but the other was up a side street in a housing estate (dead end as well)
Given that I live in a small town where nothing ever happens how did the DVLA know about this second car.
Would they have a vehicle touring side streets or would the local police have a number plate scanner?
Lack of road tax or insurance showing on the database.
Letters sent to registered keeper's address to tax or insure as appropriate haven't been dealt with (if they are PHers then the letters won't have been received obviously).
Champers go round to address, find car on the public highway (includes public car parks, as I can't be arsed going through all the detailed definitions for the pedants) and clamp it.

I had a car clamped that was in a private space (confirmed on title deeds). No idea how they found out the car was there as it was SORN'd, insured, etc. Their claim was that it was not private ground and to be fair it could be mistaken for a public area. They came and removed the clamp with no fine (eventually!) when i sent a copy of the title deeds.
To this day i have no idea how they found out the car was there as it was SORN'd, insured, etc and wasn't registered to that address. The only thing i can think of is either an eagle eyed police officer walking past (unlikely) or a neighbour with nothing else better to do with their time.

NSL as subbies, I believe. Whoever, it's a subcontractor with ANPR-equipped vans which have clamps in the back.
"Parking a SORNed/untaxed vehicle in the curtilage of a residential property" is the key phrase - all other places (to which the public have access
) are fair game for getting such a vehicle clamped.R8Steve said:
