Hi All,
So today my partner parked her car in a shopping centre car park, next to a car that was parked well up to the white line, but with enough space for her to fit in without being outside the lines herself.
When she got back, someone had scratched the c-word into the paintwork on the drivers door.
Now, I presume this was done by the driver or passenger of the badly parked car, and if that is so then I hope the police will catch them (we've asked the shopping centre to preserve the CCTV for the police). If it was the driver, could a claim be made against the insurance policy of the vehicle he was driving? Otherwise, I guess our only real option is a civil claim against the person responsible, assuming the police can identify them.
We could, obviously, claim on the vehicle's insurance, but I'm guessing that given the area in question is fairly small, it'll be cheaper to just get it repaired ourselves than make a claim - the excess is £250 anyway.
Any help/advice would be appreciated!

Report to Police and let them get on with it. The incident may have been captured on CCTV.
Don't make me laugh - when I reported vandalism to my car together with a description of the scrote who did it they didn't do a thing, giving me a crime number and telling me they were closing the case in the same phone call.Riley Blue said:

Yep, I fear something similar from what my partner told me! I shall chase it with them tomorrow though and find out what's happening!Riley Blue said:

Only because in most situations all people require is police crime reference number and their insurance will sort the rest. Hence the police feel that the car owner has been put back in the position they were in before (ignoring the 1 claim come next renewal)Sadly I imagine there are plenty of cops who would love to catch the perpetrator but sadly knowing the CPS only deal out slapped wrists there are cops who will direct their efforts elsewhere.
