Why IR pedestrian sensors will be banned

Some Japanese manufacturers were making pedestrian sensing cameras for their cars (an important nightime safey aid), and for some reason they aren't being imported into the UK.

I've sussed why: you could see SPECS & ANPR camera IR emitters on your pedestrian warning screen....

Can you see how money takes higher priority than safety from this? obv more important to catch a speeder than to save a few pedestrians. A self fullfilling prophecy, "speed kills" so let's make sure you can't see the pedestrians & thus avoid a fatality.. or is it really make sure you can't see SPECS?

Are you sure they're being banned? I can see your reasoning but it may just be that the importers don't see the demand at present?

No law against importing them at the mo, they have a legit purpose AFAIK

Nice one Hertsbiker, you've given me an Idea infrared cam coming up.

Edit: Ah No Peter W, These are a standard system IN the car, somewhat like sat nav etc. not a seperate item. I presume that the British authorities are not allowing cars so fitted IN.

P.S. I suppose we will have to take up military techniques with "Chaf" and "flare" dispensers!!

I heard a "petrolheads tale" a few months ago that Volkswagen had started to give new Toureg owners a safety pep-talk as owners blisfully ignorant that the reversing detectors don't pick up those pesky fleshy pedestrian thingys

Which manufacturers?

This could be an interesting safety aid (for advance warning of accident black spots).

Will be banned, or are already banned? If there's no ban at the moment, this doesn't explain why they aren't being imported now.
