40 in a 30

Sorry about the nickname, I got fed up trying to think of something sensible!
We have this road in Oxfordshire with no street lights but a 30 limit and a Gatso!
I have been trying to find out how I stand as regards the RTRA 1984 which I believe says this situation is not `stricly legal`!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards John Cooper. (Yes! I was caught two weeks ago!)

If there are 30mph repeater signs in the absence of street lamps and both large 30mph signs are present at the beginning of the limit, then it is a legal limit!

....and if you dig about with the LA you can confirm that a 30 mph speed order has been made under S 84(1) Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for that stretch of road devoid of street lamps. As such it has to have, in addition to 30/Nsl signs at the start and finish, repeater signs as Gone says ( he gets better and better) Absence of such signs is clear breach of Direction 10 TSGD's so tnat speed limit can be argued to be unenforceable.
