Have just driven from Lake Como to Lake Orta in Italy and used a bit of toll rd. we were travelling with 3 other cars who were charged 2 euro 90. My ticket came up with 78 euro!!!

It spat the credit card out and I put in 10 Euro note but said I owed 68 euro still. Eventually got a receipt for the the 10 euro which said I still owed 68 euros and a long ticket that stated this was issued for those who had not paid the full amount. On this ticket it says how to pay the balance on their website but nothing about customer service or appeal. Friends did not mange to get a receipt for their money. Have proof we were in Lake Como at one time and Lake Orta when we checked in hotel.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Limited time as go to get car train (nightmares) to Düsseldorf tomorrow so not much time and go a different route back. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys

Not necessarily. Slowly but surely these things are getting more awkward.

Driving a car with German plates, I had a similar situation in Italy - it was the authorities' mistake, but computer said "no".
It took the Italians 6 months, but they did indeed get my (German) RK details, track me down and send me the bill.

As the Eurocrats bring to us their "ever closer union", it is more difficult to arbitrage national jurisdictions.

Last summer, I drove a UK-registered car in Norway. Unknowingly, I went through an ANPR toll system in some of their tunnels. This year, so far they have sent me three separate invoices for specific unpaid tolls. Two of those invoices were for less than £3 each!

The Norwegians have a contract with a British company that collects for them unpaid tolls owed by Britons. In this case, ignoring the invoices, which I presumed would be pursued in and upheld by a British court, did not seem to be an option.

If the OP hears nothing further from the Italians, then the incident can probably be ignored - assuming that he does not intend to drive a car with that reg in Italy again. If he wants to drive it in Italy again, however, perhaps he should consider paying it.

Well just off to Verona train station. We will be using some toll roads again... So fingers crossed they do not stuff me for the 70 euros they think I owe them.
Do drive in Italy probably every other year but do not usually use tolls. Time factor has made us use them this year.
Thanks for your input.

I don't believe that I missed that, no.
I don't see how that affects the issue. It demonstrated to the OP that he (she?) was overcharged, but to the Italian authorities now it is an unprovable historical anecdote. It is unprovable that his friends were charged only €2.90, and, even if they had retained their receipts, it is unprovable that the OP took exactly the same journey as his friends did.
The question is, if "the machine" in Italy thinks that the OP owes it money, will the Italian authorities chase him here in UK and, if they should chase him, should he do anything about it.
I related a couple of personal experiences when I have been pursued via the post across national borders in order to collect real or alleged tolls. I was merely saying that to ignore this stuff is not as straightforward as it used to be.

Have arrived at Verona having used toll reds but not charged the extra money. This time again toll would not read ticket so man on intercom charged me 3-20 euros instead of 10-20 euros. So a little redress. Agree virtually no proof where we used toll before except the time on the credit card receipt for the hotels. I think I will try an email to customer service. Willention to other 3 cars with car reg and time. Might help who knows. I will update if any joy. Agree that these days you cannot necessarily ignore and I could get struck off if I get a conviction!
Thanks again for input

As you go there regularly I would make serious efforts to resolve it.
