We really do need to keep one eye on the speedo and one out for scameras. The Limehouse link tunnell is painfully slow at 30mph and why?? No pedestrians, no schools, no cyclists, one way traffic only. Oh sorry, of course there is a reason....

Does sound harsh. Would love to know what percentage of licence holders have points. And what percentage of those who don't are people who do 100 miles a year to the shops and back, are all over the road, inexperienced, unobservant, blind, but drive everywhere at 25 mph.
No wonder every time I go past a speed camera on the A12 the traffic speed drops to 35-40 in a 50 limit...
Mind you, if he was caught by a fixed camera every time I might have to question his observation skills...

As you say, the £ signs lit up - they had a justification for a lower limit and cameras.
That's no justification at all.
If it was joyriders that caused it, do you think other joyriders are going to think "oh, look, there's a speed camera. Better slow down then."? Of course not.
Last year I saw a programme about an anti-speed campaigner whose son was killed by a speeding drunk driver. It's terrible that his son was killed, but he was soooo eager to get a camera put up in his village because of that - he clearly didn't consider that his loss was not caused by speeding. The only answer was that he's been drawn into the "speed kills" malarkey. There wasn't even a mention throughout the entire programme about clamping down on drunk driving.
And so it continues...
When i was taught to drive the idea was to be fully aware of other road users, i.e. 100% concentration on the road and traffic conditions. However this skill seems to have been usurped by the ability to react to bright yellow boxes and day glo vests. I have a clean licence even though i drive ~300miles per week! The reason? Its the same route everyday and i know where the speed cameras are. i spend my time hunting the verges and overhead bridges for white vans, while any spare time is spent looking for burly looking gentlemen with short hair driving omegas/volvos etc. Once these tasks are complete the few atoms of concentration i have left is spent watching other road users to ensure pile ups are avoided.
Poor bloke - what a bag of shite!! The priorities are so wrong it's laughable, yet it's not a laughing matter!
Why can they fine & ban him so easily? Because he's a law abiding citizen with a car registered in his name, insurance, tax - the whole caboodle! Yet Scrote and his buddy Scumbag with cloned plates or cars not registered in their names will breeze of into the sunset giggling! It's a farce.

wouldn't you think he'd have learnt by now? Lime House = 30 ?? to be caught THREE TIMES in the same tunnel is careless beyond belief.
I have sympathy, but limited. Poor guy, but what a mistake to make.
The law sucks, I have done intergalactic speeds in that tunnel, and it did not feel dangerous until well over 80. 137 was a bit hairy I must admit.

And so it should. Their business's are entirely legal. It just points out the poor quality thinking of the control freaks at DVLA who cannot see the obvious. That it is not possible to dream up rules that force people to do as you want.
The SORN grab is the same. The continuous insurance proposal dreamed up by a Professor Greenaway will be no better
Quite honestly I will always obtain any plates I might need from Interenet companies rather than have to trudge down with a sheaf of papers just to satisfy the control freaks. ( At DVLA, not the motor shops )

Und he claimed he was unable to prove it was above 44 mph under Data Protection.
But this guy has been done at 4 mph above limit 3 times. I do not know this Tunnle Link - but it may be like Swiss ones und parts of Mersey Tunned where there ist very slight gradient. He may not have felt the increase und was watching road ahead und not Speedo. In a Tunnel - more difficult to discern speed und lighting means you watch the road und not the Speedo...in any case.
Does not really reflect on his driving or COAST skills at this low margin in Tunnel. Highlights how easy it ist - even if you are scam aware - to slip up.
But he should have invested in useful gadget (which may have lost signal in long tunnel) - but would have saved him on Upper Thames Road wherever....
But also - it also highlights unfairness of system whereby one person can lose licence for 4 pings at 34/35 mph, whilst elsewhere, one life und perhaps all licence lives are saved by Speed Course offer - or scams are set at 35/36 mph tolerance.
Should be uniform throughout as we all live in same country und supposedly subject to same rules!

Dann - when we sounded off about the old geezer who had been done at 44ph in 40 mph zone (not 10% +2) und saluted the talivan twit when next saw him.... und got prosecuted for this...

Well Wildcat, that is exactly what the tunnel is like, in fact as you go westbound into the tunnel, the limit drops from 40mph to 30mph just before the cameras.

I think that's targetted advertising, that appears based on the text of the article. It doesn't always work, such as the time I was reading the Times article on the riots / semi coup in the Ivory Coast, where all the French and most Europeans were being lynched.
On the right hand side were 6 ads about cheap flights there
Back to topic. I echo some sentiments here, he was bleeding careless to get flashed all those times in the tunnel. That shouldn't deflect from the fact that this is an example of EVERYTHING that is wrong with the 'speed causes ever problem' policy.
