Fast police driving

Just watched a Police BMW 5-series making ridiculously good progress along a crowded Mile End Road (East London.) Blue lights and siren, with a driving style that could be best described at very, very controlled. Obviously in a huge hurry to get somewhere, and very impressive to watch.
Safe? I think so. Road full of numpties, most of whom froze in shock. One guy pulled in front of him, the copper slowed and stopped almost immediately, worked his way around the obstruction and accelerated again.
I saw the guy driving as he passed (I was a pedestrian) - and he didn't look more than 25. He looked as cool as a cucumber, almost relaxed.
BiB - if this was you, I was impressed. To drive like that, in traffic, would have scared me stiff. Whatever training you have, it must be damned good. I'm not often impressed, that's for sure ...

After the last pursuit I had (early hours of New Year's Day, 140mph+ on the motorway), I was asked by a (young, new) colleague back at the office why I hadn't been driving.
I told him I had been, he was shocked because I'd sounded so calm and relaxed over the radio doing the commentray, he'd assumed I was the passenger...
He said I sounded like I was falling asleep, and he had to keep double checking the speeds I was giving out...

Interesting stuff from Oli and Dibble. 
That's how I think it should be, calm and well organised. If it is not done like that, then something is wrong. It certainly should not be all tense, white knuckle stuff.
It's a great credit to the driver training system, and indeed to the people who can reliably apply it in real situations.
