Fly tipping and the fly tippers
Discussion
We get quite a bit of fly tipping here and recently the travelling entrepreneurs have been around and kindly donated another load of someones drive in one of our fields. I saw them do it from afar the stumbled across a vehicle matching the description, noted the number and a few distinguishing features. It's not the first time this vehicle has been reported either, but last time "they had sold it". Yer, right.
Anyway, as it seems to be almost impossible to successfully prosecute them for fly tipping, why can't which ever authority is supposed to dealing with them nail them for something else? It was a 7.5 tonner, so what about their O license, driving license, drivers CPC and tacho, for a start? Then their waste transfer license, VAT registration and so on. There must be plenty of things they should be doing that they aren't that could be used to make their lives very difficult. How about some weigh bridge tickets to how where their waste has been disposed?

Fly tipping is a notifiable offence which Police have to record - if they get enough reports from that location they may pass the reports onto the local authority to look into
Thing is, these traveling entrepreneurs move on after a few days, but these ones do come back. It's no good needing "enough" reports, they should get on it straight away. I have given the police and the local authority a detail vehicle description, registration number, exact site and time of where they tipped AND where they were working AND where the vehicle was parked that night. How hard would it have been to have had a squad car there the following morning checking the tacho, O License, waste transfer license etc? They know the law makes it difficult to get a prosecution for fly tipping, so why not trip them up on all of the other things everyone else has to adhere to? The odd fine here and there, even if they do get caught, is hardly likely to put them out of business, but making their lives difficult might. The people who the rubbish ultimately belongs to should also be fined for not disposing of their waste properly.

Then again, lets leave out the cowboy tippers and look at joe public. Years ago when you got rid of something large, you got mate with works van to take it to the tip . Today --no chance, as councils have decided ( in most cases , without prior registration/use of a van to dispose of household waste), the vans =commercial waste and cars =domestic. Personally, if I was a shop keeper faced with this, I'd buy an old shed ,something like an old Volvo estate and take shop stuff to the tip. Then there's households wanting rid of large household stuff, which would fit in a car if they had one. Council want payment for removal. In lots of cases, this stuff is flytipped and council end up with more costs than if they provided a free service.
Fact /fiction ,one asks. And I've mentioned this example before .
Local area had fly tipping problems in local area in LA properties. House goes empty, grids go up and front garden ends up as tip.
This came up at a local residents Association meeting ,where the head of housing maintenance attended. One of his biggest problems was the cost of clearing up these tips. He'd send a truck out daily ,and it came back full . Suggestion was a trial period of placing a skip in one street,in differing places each week on same day. two month later, Head of housing maintenance came back to a meeting. his wagon was picking up less and skips were full, to the point that it was more cost effective to put out a skip and employ the wagon and blokes on profitable work. Empty properties fronts were empty . Must be a moral in that story for some council ,somewhere

Wont work any more at our tip, they often make you open up bags and check contents before you can dump it. Many times I've taken most of my rubbish back home again (and this is just domestic rubbish, garden waste and such like) after being refused and then just had to add it to my normal household black bin one bag every two weeks until its gone.
Its just the English guy at the tip, sometimes he's not there and its just the Polish guys and they let you dump anything. If Im quick I can dump and run before he spots me but sometimes he pounces as soon as the boot is open.
Once he wouldnt let me dump an old set of drawers as the handles were held in with metal screws. Those ended up in a skip I passed on the way home

Didn't we have a thread on here once saying "Some random dude just drove by and lobbed some old drawers in the skip that I had paid for, so now there isn't enough room for my stuff"?
I think that we all answered by saying "That's OK, probably the nasty Council wouldn't let him dump his trash, so that makes it OK for him to use your privately paid for skip. Stop complaining."

Our local tip is ok with trade waste, but only if its less than 200Kgs.
With regards to the PI-KEYS the council/ police etc. are too scared to even think about catching them and prosecuting. Where i used to live, there was a static site with some tramacers and the like. Police notified of some wrong doings, went to said site and ended up being chased out with machete wielding gyppos.
That soon became a no go area an they were left to do what they wanted.

I think (hope) he's saying he put the handles in the stranger's skip, not the full set of drawers.I think that we all answered by saying "That's OK, probably the nasty Council wouldn't let him dump his trash, so that makes it OK for him to use your privately paid for skip. Stop complaining."

Criminal courts and prisons are full of travellers. I wonder how they get there if the police are too scared to go after them.

It's a bit racist to pin all the crime on travellers... There are a few town people in prison too I think. The Daily Mail, bringing you fear, ignorance and bulls
