I am just buying a new Disco 3 and the insurance company want a tracking device fitted, it seems I could have a tracker which has receivers in patrol cars or a GPS/GSM device which pinpoints the exact location
Have the BiB ever recovered or not recovered stolen vehicles with said systems, where would you place your hard earnt .. Tracker or Navtrak

Tracker has always been my choice.
The only downside (and a total scam IMO) is that once you sell the car, you can't take the tracker out and have it fitted in your new car.
Be aware, I've heard tales of criminals stealing cars and leaving them in a hotel car park for a few days, to see if it has a tracking device.

Only used TRACKER and it's always been very good..
Occasionally has problems in very built up areas..where the signal can bounce of houses, walls..etc,,,but perserverance and the introduction of hand held receivers normal sorts it out..
Recommended if your car costs £££> and you want it back.

Yeah, a couple of flash cars have been nicked on another forum I look on. They were both fitted with Trackers and both recovered with 2-3 days. As said already, theives tend to steal it, park it around the corner for a few days to guage whether it has a Tracker fitted. Pity Insurance companies don't offer more than £30 off for having one fitted!

Isn't it interesting how insurance companies ask you to have a tracking device fitted at your expense, but don't contribute themselves? Surely the benefit of fitting one of these is to the insurers so they don't have to pay so much if the vehicle disappears. Anyone remember the programme recently where reformed crooks stole a TVR? They used a device to locate the tracker and disarm it.
Anybody tried asking Tracker how many tracker equiped cars are stolen and never recovered compared to the number that are recovered ?
For sure they do find some cars but they never answer questions about how many tracker equiped cars there are, how many with a tracker have ben found, how many have ben found gutted, how many have never been found etc.
They work by pursuading the ins companies that it lowers the risk of a total payout - and it does, to a degree. They sell it to plod on the basis that it will increase their clear up rate - and it does, bit like a salesman being given a hot lead.
The motorist is ass fecked again by the insurance company wanting to lower their risk, we end up paying £500 for a piece of electrickery which carries no guarantees and has no published success rate. How many other products of similar value would you buy without knowing what the success rate was ?
You can try this for yourself, ring tracker on 0500 090 909 and ask them what their success rate is. Post whatever response you get in this thread.

The tracker located in that program wasn't a TRACKER(tm) it was some other device.
I was speaking to one of the directors of TRACKER recently and asked why insurance companies don't give significant discounts. Apparently it's because the bulk of claims are for accident damage not theft.
Still think they should give some financial incentive if they insist on the device being fitted though.

I have had Tracker on my last two cars. On the first one I got the full GPS thingy. On this second one I just got the regular device...
