And tagged and curfew from 1900 - 0700 as well. I'd say that was a bit of a result as it goes.

Not sure how his wealth is relevant. And since when has a California been 'ultra-rare'...?

Two reasons.

One, because the fine is income-dependent.
Two, because it's the Daily Mail.

I think that, combined with the community service will have the most impact. Good call by the judge.

Yeah, I don't think he's got off too lightly there. They were never going to give him a fine that would bother him.

A pound to a penny says that he wasn't fined at all. The punishment was the suspended prison sentence, the unpaid work, the tagging order and the ban. It wouldn't be the norm to get a fine on top of that, regardless of his income level.

The £165 will actually have been prosecution costs and victim surcharge, both of which are charged at a flat rate and not means tested. Not actually a fine - but the distinction is probably a bit complicated for the Daily Mail.

Correct. £80 surcharge. £85 prosecution costs.

They should have revoked his student visa and kicked him out of the country.

Tricky with places like Iraq, etc. Anyhow, he isn't a burden on the state, he's just an idiot.

I guess it is a fine in that it is a sum of money recoverable by the court? IANAL.

According to the article, one. But a colour doesn't make it one of a kind (IMO)

Makes for a better article though....
