I've just come across a post from a guy who describes himself as a trader offering

insurance for any age on any car. Shows up on askmid. Inbox me for prices
I take it he's just adding people to his trade policy for cash. Surely this can't be legal?
You can well imagine the type of people who are replying to it, some even asking if you need a licence rolleyes

If he is technically 'selling' insurance are his 'customers' covered at all?
Yes it shows up on AskMid but what would happen in the event one of these chaps throw thier car in to the scenery/ another car?

I work hard and pay a lot of money to be legal on the road, this pisses me off a little.

What are you going to do about it ? Or do you expect someone else to do something?

They won't be meeting the terms of his trade policy.

Report him to anyone you can think of.

My various companies have been selling trade insurance for a long time.
Tthis isn't legal, and if it is what it looks like the perpetrator will probably get sent down if caught.

We have processes in place to prevent abuse of trade policies/MID but it is increasingly hard work.

You should certainly shop them, even if it is just on here as I will be able to tell straight away if it is legitimate.

These facebook / gumtree insurance scams generally involve either false paperwork or are just a front to take £500 off people through Western Union who are then to embarrassed to complain to the police.

That's a good example.

When you buy certain trade policies you get a code to update the MID directly so have the opportunity to fool the APNR cars.

mock up a document and bob's your uncle until you are caught.

They'll be doing either of the methods I put forward earlier or just taking out a policy in a random name and adding the vehicles only. They may add the drivers although this would be fairly expensive so I think they'll just add the vehicle to the MID.

Traffic cops are pretty clued up on MT policies especially when it comes to young drivers and / or using the vehicles for non motor trade use. They'll catch most of the drivers out the first time they get stopped.

They will then throw the proverbial book at them

More significantly , what happens if one of these drivers injures someone and has a claim made against them ?

Will the trade policy actually pay out to an innocent third party , or does the MIB , effectively you and I , pick up the tab ?

I've just gone back to link to the post and its mysteriously dissapeared.
I've looked at the guys profile and there's nothing on there beyond normal photos and freinds etc.
I did screen shot the page though is there a police number/ email I can send it to regards insurance fraud?

ETA I'll think I'll give 101 a call later, see what they say.

Not half as much as it pisses people like me off who pay thousands of pounds for trade polices for genuine use. The cost of which continues to climb due to the mass abuse of them

Cheers I got your email. It seems like he has deleted his Facebook account. I would still report it though to West Mids police as he seems to be from Birmingham. Send them the screenshot too.
