Do Gatsos save lives ?

If Gatsos are the best way to save lives on the road then how come two in my locality were replaced by radar controlled "30MPH SLOW DOWN" signs after they ,the Gatsos, had been burned down?.(and, I should add,quite a while after) ASFAIK there have been no accidents at the two sites since the gatsos went.

It's the options between education and coercion. Our government assumes everyone is bad and dangerous and must be monitored and controlled.
That's what trafpol can do. They can educate someone who is being "a bit silly" while jumping down those who are idiots.

No they don't - they operate by failure, they are comprehensively outclassed in every respect by speed sensitive traffic lights - which operate with success.
Gatsos induce annoyance, wasted time and money, frustration, they fail to slow everyone down and cause loss of respect for the police and the law.
Speed sensitive traffic lights just slow people down.
So where is the right place for a Gatso again??

The slow-down electronic lights do work, especially for those people unfamiliar with the area.
However, for those people who are in a hurry, know the signs, know the road, know that the sign activation wont mean points/fine...it's of no use..as it won't hinder their 'hurry'..

All these "lives theyve saved"....names addresses date/time and incidents these people were rescued from please?
Speed traps have NO place on our streets whatsoever because by their very nature they require you to DO something wrong before an action is taken. Ergo a failure. If i go past a gatso at 35 and get snapped and then 200 yards later have a fatal rta, then how did it save anyone? It didnt so it failed, it didnt work, it screwed up.
All it did was take a pic of a car going faster than its trigger speed and bung a fine in the post, which in the scenario shown wouldnt even get paid cos it was a fatal!
So, show me WHERE these bastards of gatsonides have a place, other than in a F
ing funeral pyre.

You miss the point. Speed cameras don't stop everyone speeding past either. The point is the lights are three times more effective at slowing the traffic than the cameras. And as pointed out, they cost less to put up, less to maintain and create far less negative attitude. It's a no brainer, really.
But, oh, wait a minute. They don't make any money.

Und agree mit Nonners und DeltaFox ... they belong in scrap yard. There are hardly any Gatsos in the right place - most are in lucrative spots.
Und in Manchester ...another of the medic relatives was on way to give talk in his specialism. His visits were one week apart. The second visit - he came off M60 onto M56 und onto A5103. Along the road to the right hand turn to get to Christie's where he was giving the talk... he passed a Gatos near pelican crossing. The pelican crossing also had a red light cam und the opposite carriageway leading back to M56 had Gatso controlling the 40 mph limit. On his second visit he found the pelican was covered in flowers..... so depsite no less than three scameras - someone had been killed here. It was a child....but nothing in press over it - apart from one teeny paragraph in the local paper. He had simply run across the road without waiting.....
THREE scams! Und someone still died. Not what I term as effective! Und the guy was driving legally according to the paper....
Ist parenting und education...
