Afternoon gents, looking to set my expectations (realistically) on the outcome of my situation.

Today, I've discovered that I have had an attachment of earnings for a fine issued by HMCTS. The fine is for no insurance on a non-SORNed vehicle.

The vehicle in question was sold circa March 2014 and all paperwork sent off. Court have advised that documents were sent to Address A in December 2014 (at which time I lived at Address B) and further documents regarding the AoE sent in June 15 to Address B (at which time I lived at Address C).

So, I was not aware of the legal proceedings they were commencing against me, nor of their intentions to apply and gain an AoE.

I have applied to sign a Statutory Declaration to express I was not aware of the initial hearing. However, what I'm unsure of is what will happen then? Will the appeal process start again?

If so, how on earth to I prove that I sent the logbook (unrecorded) to the DVLA?

In terms of evidence, I do have a screenshot of the original Gumtree ad that I placed, clearly showing the date. I also have email correspondence with the buyer arranging collection and negotiation etc. however, the email address is one of those obscure Gumtree email strings that cannot be connected to an individual.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
Mike

Another PHer who doesn't get any letters at all. I suppose that explains why you'd not bother with forwarding your mail when you move, as you never get any post to forward.

Good effort at stereotyping Loon. Of course, you would have been compeltely in the know in terms of my personal circumstances at the time, no?

I'm not stereotyping, I'm repeating the stories of every story like this. It seems that nearly everyone who comes on here with a tale of woe around CIE has moved house / never received any letters / just left their partner, often through no fault of their own as the snake with tits has been cheating with their brother and so on.

Reality is that there are lots of letters sent, forwarding your mail is a simple transaction taking a couple of minutes and something that anyone who moves home, especially when / if there's a split from a partner should always do for all sorts of reasons.

The fact is that you have been done and there's little you can do about it, other than follow the process and now you'll amazingly start to receive the letters that you previously ignored didn't receive

always get proof of postage when sending anything which not sending could result in a fine or a bigger fine that you're already paying.

I paid for 3 months of mail forwarding back in 2005 and my tax renewal due the following month end never made it.

Its not a perfect system by any means.

14,000,000 items of mail go missing every year.

I do love that figure. It's like saying there are 5million illegal immigrants in the country. It can't be proven but it's a great headline grabber

It seems that all 14m are from DVLA to PHers.

The number isn't important, what's important is that a lot of mail (particularly redirects) goes missing. Unfortunately my missus runs a Post Office, so I get to hear about problems with the Royal Mail most days rolleyes

14 million out of 13.8 billion letters a year (from http://www.royalmailgroup.com/sites/default/files/...

0.1%, for those who don't want to round and drop some zeroes.

Interesting how so many PH'ers fall into that 0.1%.

We moved a month ago, and 3 items have failed to redirect thus far.

Because we were talking about tax renewal letters and I got the ones for my van and two bikes before I changed the addresses on the V5Cs. On a related note, all five V5Cs for my vehicles made it to DVLA, had the addresses changed and made it back no problem too.

Excellent, so proves DVLA and the post service are infallible.

Yup, redirects cause a lot of problems...

So let's do something unusual on PH these days and actually believe the OP's version of events is entirely plausible and offer him some helpful advice.

No it doesn't. Nor does one person not receiving their post prove that it's a flawed system either. We've had two sets of numbers in here already. One stating the scary figure of 14m pieces of post going astray every year amd one showing that is less than 0.1% of the total figure. Few systems are perfect, most accept a failure rate of below 1% is good.

Despite WW's plea, I don't believe the OP didn't get any post at all, as it's all just too convenient. It's amazing how the conclusion to the matter always arrives though. I'll leave you to it now, as there's no advice to give, just empathy given the process that he's already started.

I bet the catalogues from places where you forgot to tick the 'please don't send me stuff' arrive just fine though hehe

Even the ones sent AFTER the forwarding arrangement ran out - as stated by Hol? Really?

Unfortunately Loon knows little of the vagaries of the Royal Mail, equally unfortunately I hear about problems almost every bloody day when she gets in from work...
