My wife's just bought an 07 Audi TT. It was MOT'd last Dec. They, Halfords, advised the previous owner that he needed new tires to pass. He agreed and they supplied and fitted new tires.
They have supplied 235/40/18 size where the correct tire is 245/40/18. He was also under the impression that they were run flats.
Are they liable for supplying and fitting the wrong size. Does the difference in size matter?
Appreciate any advice.

Even if they are it is not your wife that can take any action.

She purchased the car as seen so will have to lump it.

Is it the same tyre size all round?

There's nothing to stop people putting different sizes on.

If there was a big issue with sizing between front and rears, I would have expected it to have put on the ABS warning light at higher speeds.

A quick search on the internet suggests that a 2007 Audi TT with 9jx18 ET52 wheels may be fitted with either 235/40 R18 or 245/40 R18 tyres.

What makes you think the size is wrong?

I'm guessing 'cos it only needed two to pass. If it only needed one then that's more of an issue.

How well do you know the previous owner- could the conversation have gone like this...
Halfords: " You need 2 tyres"
Previous Owner: "How much?"
H: "£120 each"
P/O: " that's a lot, got anything cheaper?"
H: " we can do 235's for £80 each"
P/O: "That's better, I'm selling it anyway"

It's a minimal difference, but I think a Quattro should have the same all round, though I agree they can be the lower size.

I was only worried if the wrong size could have been an mot issue. Previous tyres were, apparently, 245 and run flat. Previous owner had assumed same would be fitted as that was on quote. Actual invoice changed to 235.
As long as it won't cause us problems. That's all I was worried about.
Cheers for your replies.
