This is a question for the BiB's.
Years ago, when I was a wee lad of 18, I was one of 5 blokes in a mini ( just about possible )driving out of a multi storey car park round the helta skelta.
As we got to ground floor level, we rounded the bend to see about 8 blokes, standing across the driveway, armed with chains, knives etc. The guy who was driving the mini decided to stop and he wound down the window and spoke to the leader. The armed blokes were clearly looking for a specific person/group, so having determined that we were not the ones they were after, let us carry on our way. ( Complete with 8 pairs of kickss to the car....bastards )
My question to the BiB is "What would you recommended doing in this situation. "
Do you stop or drive through them. This could potentially these days be a no win situation for the threatened person. If you stop you get kicked in. If you drive through them and injure one, you will be in more trouble than them. Comments?

If I ever thought my life was in danger, I'd drive through/over them and defend my actions in court. Dead men can't defend themselves too well, after all.

It would be reasonable to meet such a threat with a use of force which is equivalent to that which is in front of you. Drive over the top of them and straight to the nick to report it!

If you time it right, you might be able to keep them pinned to the windscreen until you get to the cop shop, too.

Any chance a fancy lawyer could get scrotes off, and get the driver in trouble for hurting their poor innocent client?

Its possible but I doubt that it would get that far in those circumstances, especailly with five witnesses in the car who would give statements independantly about the facts. A quick response to the Police would not allow for rehersal of the evidence with all 5. The truth would be relatively easy to find through the independant accounts of each witness!

You have a right in law to protect yourself. It is covered by Section 3 Criminal Law Act 1967 which covers honest held belief at that time! You can use whatever force is reasonable in the circumstances to prevent a crime or protect yourself or another under this section.

YOU MUST BE PROPORTIONATE IN YOUR RESPONSE THOUGH!
An militia of armed thugs stopping your exit with an honestly held belief that you are about to be hurt is proportionate in those circumstances.

That would not stop anyone you hurt form personally suing you though. In the circumstances I cannot see a civil court entertaining any damages over those circumstances in that situation!

999 on the mobile phone and go to another area/level of the car park.

You have to make it look like you had no options left. You have to avoid rather than deal.

If you are then cornered...the advice is the old saying of 'better being judged by 12 than carried by 6'.

I wouold agree totally with that Gary BUT, he is at the bottom of a Helter Skelter! Reversing back up it would not necessarily be condusive to his future health or possibly his means of escape should he meet Mrs Miggins in her 4X4 coming down as he is going backwards up it!

Precisely. We could either have stopped ( as we did ) or drove through them. As it happens it turned out ok, but I've often wondered about this one. Its not easy, because the scrotes were not looking for us, and if we had gone through them and hurt someone, then I'm sure they would have gone straight to a lawyer and we may have had a problem justifying our action.
I can just hear the f*****g lawyer now :-
"Is it true to say that you cannot be sure what my clients intentions were?"
Me "Yes, thats true, but....."
Lawyer " And is it also true to say that in fact my clients were minding their own business, and having a chat together"
Me " What, all carrying chains and knives and....."
Lawyer " I am sorry, but that is not relevant"
Objection blah blah blah bullshit bullshit bullshit.

gone / Street, thanks for the advice.
If I were driving the mini, I reckon I would have carried on. In fact we all shouted to carry on, but the driver decided to stop.

Wouldn't there normally be a barrier at the exit, forcing you to stop anyway?

Street, you are in the wrong job. Should have been a comedian. Incidentally there was no barrier. It was a drive straight out job.
