Do people not understand how average speed cameras work? In the roadworks area at Birch on the M62 there are signs warning drivers about the 50mph limit. I set my cruise to 49mph through the seemingly endless works, but I was being tailgated and lots of cars were steaming past me. There was no indication that they were not working, so unless I missed something the scamera outfit will make a small fortune in fines.

I sit with the cruise at 55 and have done for years without incident. There's a view I've read that they give you a 10 mph margin but I'd not chance that so I work on 10% + 2, my speedo reads a little over at 50, so I'm probably doing 53 in an area that 57 would be the minimum they'd do you for. Lorry's often drive on their limiter which is also typically 50-55 actual speed. 49 is a little conservative especially as that may mean you're doing as low as 45 depending on how accurate your speedo is.

There are those that slow down at the camera posts which is clearly a bit pointless on average speed, and there are those that drive fast until they reach the first camera, more noticeable where there is traffic joining the motorway.
