Letter in the Sun today word for word....
(I know... but I only buy it for entertainment value)
Quote:
"I don't understand why people are against speed cameras, especially those who complain that law and order are out of control.
It wouldn't matter even if there were 20 billion speed cameras in the country. Its simple - don't speed and you wont get caught.
Speeding kills, end of story"

militant tree hugging muesli muncher and a Sun reader. Somehow a slightly unlikely combination.
I'm not sure myself - first it was anti-Kinnock and pro-Thatcher, then it was pro-Blair, now it's sitting the fence taking pot-shots at NuLabia where it sees an opportunity to go with the flow...which it always does!
The Sun is a weathervane of the uneducated masses, unfortunately it can also clearly influence them...a position of power owned by someone who I wouldn't trust to deliver my papers, let alone tell me what's happening in the world!
I very much doubt that is a genuine letter sent to the Sun!
They will do little favours like this for the government now and then, depending on the favours they receive on legislation that affects the rest of their group companies like Sky Broadcasting etc. For further reference see their "War on Iraq" or "Criticism of BBC" coverage.
Mutual back scratching/conflict of interests, call it what you will, it isn't going away as its part of human nature and the regulators do not have the power to stop it.

and these people are allowed out on their own!! Just added a slightly more balanced comment. Managed not to go off on an unfocussed rant, but it wasn't easy!
It's worth bearing in mind these sort of idiots are in the minority. Remember the recent AOL poll, asking: Do you resent speed cameras?
Yes
22851
83%
No
4749
17%
Total Votes:
27600
A voter base of nearly 30,000 gives a much truer picture. For some reason, the media love to publish idiot letters and all it does is give the wrong idea about true public feeling.

It only takes one! that is the trouble with this silly country. A good example was on Jeromey Vine this afternoon, when a Scottish 'pressure group' said that a new Tesco was not wanted in their town. When the local MP asked the community to vote as to whether they did want a Tesco or not, they voted yes with a majority of 2-1!!!
Another example is that of one (that's right, one letter, no more!) complaint at a cinema about the film Ray not being shown, citing racism! Guess what, film being shown next week!!!!!!!
The problems arise when said 'Sun readers' believe the bile they are fed, and these same very misguided people who have no real opinions of their own will vote labour back in, easily manipulated, and the more intelligent know this, and use it to their advantage and monetary gain.
The guy who wrote the letter in the Sun (if indeed, he did write it!!), doesn't know any better, and that is very scarey!
(Why do you think Stalin had anyone with more than half a brain cell executed in his purge in the 20's and 30s?? He was left with ickle sheep, who cared not for the millions he had put to death!)
