Hello PH,

I wonder if anybody can shed some light on a piece of graffiti that was painted outside the door to my flat. The letters 'PWITS' have been drawn on with what looks like marker rather than spray paint (it has leaked and dribbled down the side of the wall). It was done between 8pm and 10pm last week.

Here's the interesting bits:

- The 'S' is stylised as '$'
- PWITS is (according to Google) an acronym for 'Possession with Intent to Supply'

Two people live in my building: Me (incredibly innocent, never had any run-ins with the law, really quite boring) and a sixty-something woman whom is largely the same as me. Therefore I'm a bit confused as to what warranted this piece of decorative art. I have reported it to the police and they were extremely helpful and called back (to my surprise) but said they had no grounds for suspicion of anything sinister, and no way to investigate it. Basically, clean it up myself. Which I understand being in London.

If there are any ex/current graffiti artists/ knowledgeable policeman among PH who could tell me if I have had a price put on my life by some underworld gang, or if there is an up-and-coming graffiti artist named 'PWIT$' who simply liked the look of my wall. Thank you.

PWITS is as per the OP's explanation. Could be someones got the wrong flat to have a go at.

Unless the graffiti wiped straight off, the Police should have taken a report of the damage

It sounds like it's just a tag. I wouldn't worry about it.

Not quite - I'm young-twenties and male. But in terms of the excitement levels in our lives, I suspect (depressingly) we are quite similar.

That's what I thought, the annoying thing is though, it's not very impressive artistically. I mean... if you're going to do some graffiti, make it good. Thanks all other posters!

The heavies are coming round. They rely on hastily scrawled graffiti tags to work out who they're supposed to chin.

Oh wait, no they don't. Must be some stupid kid then.
