I was only doing 30/31 at the time. Was heading towards Tesco in Purley (from the shell garage) and underneath the railway bridge they have one of the new speedcurb cameras that replaces an old gatso that used to stand there.

It's set up to monitor traffic going in the opposing direction (so towards the shell garage and away from Tesco)

No car on the road, other then me and I am sure I was further back then the markings on the road anyway but the flash was bright enough to blind me the one time it went off (this is why I checked my speed and know I wasn't going fast enough to set one off even if it had been on my side)

Just wondering what could have set this off? I know they take 3 readings but with nothing passing sensors in that side why did it choose then to go off?
I've never seen this camera flash abnormally, not even when it was the older gatso type. It's actually got me worrying even though I know I was within the limit.
These ones that are set off on one side, (single camera, not a double one that they have of these in the central reservations elsewhere) still work the same way in that they capture only the rear of the car?

It's a bit dangerous if it's triggering for no reason as it is bright. Especially at 1am when you aren't expecting it.

That's indeed the camera I'm talking about.
Markings only on the other side of the road, none on my side.

And me.

Thinking about it though, I couldnt see those lasting long before being seriously damaged.

They can be commanded to flash for tests.
