Weird pull from police last night.
Discussion
Just trying to work out why I was pulled last night. It was a very friendly chat and tbh I suspect it was a "just in case" check rather than an ANPR ping. For the avoidance of doubt (this IS pH after all) my car is insured, MOTd and taxed - the officer didn't even mention any of those things in conversation.
I was driving through Aylesbury at about 11:40 last night to drop a friend home. A traffic Volvo passed my in the opposite direction. He dud a 3 point turn in the road and then followed me through town, but didn't follow me when I turned into my friends road. I dropped her off and was turning round to go back home when Mr Volvo appears again. I get out and we have a chat.
First thing he brings up is that my car is registered to an address 200 miles away. I explain ive just moved and have updated my address on insurance and driving licence but haven't yet sent my V5 off with change of address. He's happy with that.
Then he asks about a parking dispute from about a fortnight ago. What happened was that I parked on on street parking and a homeowner threatened to damage my car because it was outside his house. I had to leave my car there as I was visiting his next door neighbour and all the other roads around are permit holders only. So just to be sure I called 101 and logged it just in case there was any damage to my car when I returned.
The officer just asked if there had been any developments with that and I said that the car didn't get any damage. He then thanked me for my time and was on his merry way.
The conversation was both of us out of our vehicles and he didn't ask for license / any ID checks or even my name. Just a bit random really! Could it have been an ANPR ping from the when I called 101?

Sounds like it to me. Maybe a marker or a flag that pinged up when you went passed - hence the turnaround. Sounds like reasonable policing to me
I had a few traffic cars pull me over when I had company cars that were purchased outright by the company - Young lad driving around late at night in a new car registered 100 miles away. I imagine they suspect it could be nicked etc.. they were always fine when I explained it was a company car and I lived in this town!

Sounds like a std response to an ANPR to me. The vehicle is 200 miles "from home" and has an incident registed against it. Good policing if you ask me!
I got pulled a year or so back, lateish one night, when the officers saw my car and followed me for a bit. They just checked who i was saying "we've had a few of this model stolen recently, so are just checking up on the ones we see". Which i thought was pretty good policing too! Didn't cause me any issue, and it's nice to think they are pro-actively policing car thefts etc.

Had this regularly a few years back, most being 3 times in 36 hours....I got pulled a year or so back, lateish one night, when the officers saw my car and followed me for a bit. I was a baby-faced 21 year-old driving a nearly new BMW 335i coupe around SE London/Lewisham late at night though...

Sounds like you weren't pulled at all, you just pinged the interest of a copper and were so worried about it you stopped all by yourself.
This place never fails, does it!
Anyway the whole question was more whether because I'd logged an incident (if you can call it that) against my car that it pinged ANPR?

I have been stopped a couple of times early morning about 90 miles from home, driving to Heathrow and Gatwick. On both occasions it was to confirm who I was and where I lived on the basis that cars like mine had been a recent target for thefts.
I was not asked to produce any documents, but if I had got a phone call at home to say they had recovered my stolen car I would have been very grateful. Good proactive policing as far as I was concerned. Two minutes on each occasion, a very polite chat and I was on my way.

I completely agree it was good policing, I may be reading a tone that isn't there but it think people think I'm insinuating he shouldn't have had a chat with me - that's not the case at all.
I really was just interested to find out if that particular event may have been the reason I was of interest that's all

Ive an Audi A6 and a BMW Z4, I work shifts and travel at odd times between Edinburgh and Broxburn. I can say in the 10 years or so Ive been stopped in the early hours or through the night going between places, and around the festive period i say ive been tailed a few times and pulled, generally all very nice and matter of fact, where you going etc.... dont bother me and its just the polis doing their thing. Ive nowt to hide and it dont really bother me. breath checked etc but never drink and drive.

Every once in a while, it would be great to be stopped and told:
1) We like your driving style - it's efficient and courteous.
2) Pat on the back for keeping all your paperwork and driving admin up-to-date.
3) Thanks for having a clean criminal record.
Once you have achieved all 3 your wish might come true 1) We like your driving style - it's efficient and courteous.
2) Pat on the back for keeping all your paperwork and driving admin up-to-date.
3) Thanks for having a clean criminal record.
