Thanks in advance BTW.

To cut a long story short I had my wallet nicked last night and went to see the local BiB who said they'd look into it.

The place I was sitting in the pub was in full view of two CCTV cameras and the idiot made the mistake of using one of my bank cards in a petrol station that is rigged to gunwales with CCTV. We also know the exact time he used my card.

I was just wondering, what are the chances of this guy being caught? Any idea?

Cheers guys, any help would be appreciated.

The BiB need to sieze the tapes from the pub, before Brenda behind the bar tapes over them!

Then the same at the petrol station.

Then a case of marrying the two up. It's likely that the two may not be the same, ie: the thief in the pub may have given/sold the wallet/cards to another criminal (after taking the cash).

The tapes from the petrol station, should also hold evidence of the vehicles on the forecourt. Presuming that the man in the petrol station either bought fuel or was in a car on the forecourt. He might have simply walked onto the forecourt and into the petrol station.

The still pictures will then by viewed by BiB at that local station and the neighbouring ones to see if anybody recognises him. In addition, he might be a regular in the pub or the petrol station and the staff may know something about him.

Failing any recognition by staff or BiB...the final thing is forensic. ie: if the card was recovered, there might be fingerprints/DNA on it. A remote, but potential idea.

If none of those ideas work, then the crime will be unsolved. There are no facial recognition systems or anything like that, which the police will use.

You'll have cancelled all your cards etc, no doubt.

Sorry to hear of your trouble VTEC. It's dreadful to have something you own, taken from you by such scum. Fingers crossed they will meet with some unfortunate accident.

Regards,

SC

If he's known and the cctv is clear and he is not wearing the standard issue hoodie and baseball cap combination - quite high - I've caught people like that before and charged them with various theft offences including handling stolen goods and attempting to obtain property by deception

Hope they catch him / her!

Thanks Mungo.

The pub I was in doesn't allow poeple with hoodies or baseball caps, so not much chance he could have disguised his face.

Another thing, there was bloke in the same pub as me giving a statement in the station who had his wallet nicked shortly after mine and even gave a vague description of a suspect.

Street,

The possibility of the suspect passing my card onto another was one I hadn't considered. Good thinking.

The local BiB said they'd get straight in touch with the pub and the petrol station after I gave a quick statement. I already told the pub to keep the tapes just in case.

Thanks for your consoling words as well, I had quite a few personal things in wallet as well, - things I probably won't ever see again.

Ah, that unused condom from 1985...

Sorry - didn't mean to take the michael; nasty when something like that happens.

No need to apologise mate, I'm pretty much over it now and actually found that comment rather amusing.
