The revenue from safety camera partnerships speed enforcement in my county in the last year is half what it was the year before....

Less than 50% caught on camera in 2004 than figure in 2003...

RTCs are also down....

Wonder how widespread this is, and how much of it is linked to recent rubbish about being able to put the cameras where they like ?

Fewer people are getting caught, that doesn't mean that fewer people are speeding though does it? If we measured all crime by successful conviction rates then we'd be living in a statistically crime free utopia

Just goes to show. I strongly believe that the proliferation of cameras is contributing to a bigger problem - that of the uninsured driver and hit'n'run RTIs, both of which have seen significant increases.

Point to note: By my forces states only 19% of KSI RTIs are caused by excess speed.

Don't know...

The cameravans are in a variety of places...

In addition, when working the unmarked vehicles; i'm finding fewer and fewer motorists speeding....certainly those exceeding the limit by any great amount are few and far between...

I'm talking of course in 30s, 40s and 50s....

There isn't much speed enforcement in my county's NSLs.

Street are you saying that people are driving more carefully or they are driving more slowly? If people are driving with their brains switched on and are observant then i'm not surprised you're seeing fewer speeders. A healthy Trafpol presence promotes this sort of driving, speed cameras don't. I've even been known to break the limit (not wrecklessly) when out of range of a mobile van out of pure bloody mindedness

Not sure really Roy....

There does seem to be a change in attitudes in 2005....The speeds that we're 'pegging' people seems to be lower. There are fewer that are, say, 20mph over the limit....Now there are either those just over or those wildly over..

Obviously what I say now is a generalisation...but it's the general feel...

It might be just a 'blip', I don't know..

I'm doing some speed enforcement (pro-laser) in the next 7 days in a 40mph zone that has been plagued by excessive speed, leading to several nasty RTCs in the last 12 months...

I will see if the trend continues...

I know of many people that have lot's of points on their licence, and say that when the points are removed, they will pick up speed again.

I suspect the slowdown will only be a temporary thing.

I have noticed myself that not many are doing over 90mph on the motorway anymore.

Last Friday on the M40 there were unmarked BIB stopped cars on both sides of the motorway, so you do have to keep your eyes open, and proves that the serious speeders are being targeted.

Anyone taken the time to watch traffic on motorways these days? Very much like the American freeways were some years ago, all dumbly following at 70 mph or less, all the lanes at the same speed. Drivers being hypnotised by the boredom.

But it doesn't seem to have cut accidents on motorways though, I listen to them reported every day on the radio. Hey! Maybe there's another cause!
