Morning.

A work salary sacrifice companies insurance company will only insure Tesla's if they have a tracker fitted. Tesla don't allow this. The sacrifice scheme will allow the car and servicing to go through them with insurance arranged by the business then added to the overall cost. Liability issues require finding an insurance company who will cover the Tesla as a small business fleet without the tracker fitted. Any help with this would be appreciated please because they can't find anything suitable at the moment.

Would you be placing the whole fleet with the new insurer in order to get the Tesla covered with no tracker, or are you just after a single vehicle business car policy on the Tesla with no tracker requirement. If the latter, I think you will struggle. If the former, how many vehicles on the fleet and I may be able to put you in touch with someone.

That is the issue. Can't move the whole fleet due to contract with Tusker. It would be up to about 10 vehicles, but perhaps not all at once even. There is scope to grow though, as a slight carrot..., with other high end cars being able to offer like the i8.

I thought Tesla's had tracker built into them (there's an app you can download), I know of at least two stolen Tesla's that were recovered using the app tracker.

Yes, if they just want GPS tracking, then you're right. But most insurers will insist and Thatcham cat 5 or 6 and it won't meet those requirements.

Ah I didn't realise they weren't Thatcham approved, still the system seemed to work a lot better than a number of well known trackers.
One of the owners was able to remotely lock the doors of the car!

From the experience of a friend it seems plenty of run-of-the-mill modern cars have built in GPS tracking that the Police can use to instantly locate the vehicle.

Yeah BMW for one but they are very very touchy about releasing the data even to the police, they have to jump through loads of hoops to get the data by which point it may be too late.
From what I was shown is the owner of the Tesla opened the app up had the location and locked the doors remotely, quick and easy.
All good having the tech but it's the accessibility and user friendly aspect that makes it a great tool.

Why don't Tesla permit you to fit a tracker to your car ? Even if they don't, how would they know ? Can you not do it anyway ?

The car has a permanent 3g connection to Tesla so yes they'd know

I am curious about this as well.

My partner has a Zoe and you could easily fit a tracker to it as a lot of the normal car functions still use a 12v 'normal' car electric system. I would be surprised if Tesla has recently invented the wheel for a lot of the ancillaries.

What does that mean? Separate 3g connections. Tesla might spot a constant drain on the battery but it's so minor that I wouldn't stand out.

More probably they don't want a 3rd party messing with their loom, etc.

Even if they don't, surely its your car and you do what you want?

It may invalidate the warranty though.

OP's post says salary sacrifice - so maybe some form of lease - so their terms?
