hi all,

Was driving down the a130 away from chelmsford today, in my newly aquired company car.

Pulled out to over take a lorry, was speeding (evil, wrong, etc etc sorry), and saw a police traffic volvo in a far away layby (well half a mile, down a hill) 2 coppers standing on the nr side of the volvo with what looked like the older style laser guns which they pull you with, show you your speed and book ya. Now i didnt get pulled, and i wasnt the only one doing said speed, no racing or anything like that, just the way the traffic was at the time.

What i need to know is, does anyone know if essex police have the means to book you with a letter, as they do from the backs of the vans with all the computer gear in the back when they get you towards them? or could it have been a copper being trained on how these laser guns worked, which is how it appeared.

Just need to know if im gunna have to explain this one to the boss, reaction wont go down too well

Thanks a lot for any advise you could offer asap

no it was on the wide 3 lane new stretch just before the wickford turning, on the a130 heading towards southend from chelmsford.

Just as you go into the big dip in the road, i came over the top of the hill and he was in the layby at the bottom of the hill.

i jus need to know if essex pol are using LTi 20 20 cameras which look like the laser guns but are cleverer! and link to a video in the car, they were standing outside the car at the time, seemed to be talking but pointing it at the traffic.

Bloody hell, it is too easy to jus creep up to 85 and just sit at that speed, till u see one of these dam things its all ok! i may get shot down in flames for that comment, but i think most will agree.

In most cases, you will be stopped by two officers and cautioned; so I'd say you have fair chance of hearing chuff-all else.

The reason why scamera vans don't stop you at the time is that a good deal of them are civilian operators and are not empowered to caution you. Actually, there is an argument that they shouldn't even be operating the cameras too, but that's another story.

Sounds like the BiB have used their discretion and not bothered. (Unlike a scamera).

Thanks for your comments, that was what i was thinking too, plus i took the next turning so may not have found them sitting in the next layby waiting.

Just thought id check here to see if anyone knew anymore about how they worked. Encouraging, but we will see.

i'm inclined to agree with my mucker Medicineman...

I think the BiB decided you wasn't worthy of their attention at that time...and waiting for a more deserving customer...

Hope you're

Hmmmm

Not sure whats going on here, but I saw the same thing on my way to Wales the other day. On the M4 on the Bristol side of the bridge there was a trafpol car on eastbound carridgeway with the car in the layby.

He was pointing a laser gun at the oncoming traffic over the roof of his car.

To top it off on my side of the road there was one of the fleecing bastard Welsh scamera vans on a overpass.

Also on a seperate note I have never been anywhere with so many fixed speed cameras in my life (Cardiff).

Made driving in the city very unpleasant and combined with the bridge toll means there is very little change of me visiting Wales again any time soon.

If it's any help my g/f had exactly the same situation on the A130 about a month ago. She was worried that she'd get a ticket but has ad nothing through the post.

Apparently the cops were positioned just past a bridge as the road curves round so no chance to spot them and adjust speed. It's a shame for the 130 as it's a nice bit of road that you can quite safely exceed the limit imo.

Oh. The A130. Site of one million road deaths before it even opened, apparently. Hence the cameras being there on day 1 ?

The A130, site of 160 leptons each way, with no collisions, deaths, or injury to small children.

The same A130, that everyone SAFELY does 95 leptons on, every single day?

Funny old world.
