police camera bike
Discussion
Insofar as you're able to comment (not looking to get you into trouble here SC!) whats the general BiB opinion regarding the decline in TrafPol numbers since the govt has decided to splash cameras everywhere? How frustrated do you BiB get about the policy what with cameras not being able to pick up no tax/insurance, drunks, mentally infirm (!) etc?
Also.... I'd love to know how do you keep your cool when some muppet starts screaming abuse at you? Presumably theres some kind of training course like 'Introduction to Resisting the Temptation of Kicking Seven Shades of Crip out of Morons Part One'
?

hiya ed...
Most trafpol..if not all...resent the increase in cameras, compared with the decrease in trafpol numbers..
Not necessarily the use of cameras, but at the expense of human trafpol numbers.
The inability of a camera to catch (as you correctly say), no tax, licence, insurance, stolen car etc etc...is plain to see and although i believe cameras do have their place in road safety, they only have a limited use. Even that is more limited if placed in the wrong place....
As for keeping cool...depends...every BiB has a line....and when the 'punter' crosses it..they get lifted...
My line in the past has been shorter than most...but i'm getting more mellow with age.
What I do find..is that people are less inclined to behave like knobheads in a trafpol car...with the knowledge that they are being filmed and recorded, than they are when stopped by a panda driver. I've experienced both, and can really see the difference, now I'm trafpol.
In addition; for traffic offences; motorists seem more accepting of their fate when stopped by trafpol than panda driver. Don't really know why that is, but it's true.

The bike looks like a useful bit of kit for catching inconsiderate/dangerous/speeding drivers. How do bikes fair in pursuit situations? I assume they can keep up with fleeing cars but can't do much to actively stop the suspect (wouldn't like to risk a rolling roadblock on one).
Another question, where do bike officers put their coffee and doughnuts? They'd go everywhere

Not just Trafpol. Just about every BiB I have spoken to in my force regrets the increase. (mostly, 'cos there is now less trafpol jobs to get into

Most seem to be generally accepting when they get in the back of my Panda car as well, although there is the odd one or two (especially when they are drunk...they seem to think giving me abuse will stop me arresting them!)
Ok Chaps,
talking about camera bikes, heading south in Finland after summer holidays what I assume to be some geezer on a YZF R Yahamha 1000cc job is in in fact a Finnish Trafpol, with blue lights etc. under fairing who pulls me in for doing 115kph in an 80kph ( I thought its was a 100) anyway busted for 500€!!! Totally covert.
