Good evening,

I think I might have been pinged by a mobile camera van earlier today on the motorway near Carlisle. If I did, it wasn't significantly above the speed limit so this is what brings me to ask the question. What is the mph over the speed limit before the mobile camera will get you taking into account that speedo over-read intentionally? Is it 10% or 10mph?

Thanks,

As a rule of thumb but its not 100% its 10% over the limit plus 2mph so -

30 - 35
40 - 46
50 - 57

etc but thats not 100% I guess you will find out soon enough

Depends on whose running the scamera. ACPO guides state 10%+2 but if the local coffers are short then they may be set at 0% tolerance.

So on the motorway 70mph the guideline is 79mph?

Yes but you generally dont get a ticket until 80 in that situation. Dont forget it is actual speed too and not what is showing on your speedo

Okay thank you. I think I will have to see if anything comes through, as I think based on the tolerance in indicated speed vs actual it'll be close to the allowance!

In Cumbria they would do you for 65 if they could get away with it.

Allegedly

They do just that....in a 30, 40 and 50 limit.

So you would like lower limits on the M6 through Cumbria so you can Nick more drivers?

Do you have search alerts on keywords or something? Posting on any thread mentioning speeding is like fly-fishing.

On a more sensible note, do you agree with the acpo guidelines or do you think there should be zero tolerance? That would effectively lower speed limits by 5mph.
