What's the limit with this sign?
Discussion
No doubt there will be someone along soon to say you shouldn't be be driving if you don't know this and every other sign and instruction in the highway code, but triangular signs are generally warnings and rectangular are information signs.
So my take is that you are being warned of a bend and the advise is to slow to 30mph for the bend, but that the speed limit remains at whatever the speed limit is for that road.

According to two officers of Police Scotland, it's a 50 limit and they should be charging me with Driving without Due Care and Attention, hence the question! Bloody knew I was right, should have stood my ground
You can still be charged with DWDCA even if you are under the limit. But not with speeding.

If the limit was relevant, they'd be talking about you exceeding the speed limit. They're talking about the advisory max being a contributory factor to DWDC&A.
I'm intrigued as to how this conversation came about in the first place. Was there a stationary queue around the bend that you didn't manage to avoid...?

Implying that you haven't been charged with anything, just got a stern talking to?

It means "Drift Here"

For those who asked for a background
I had overtaken a marked police car around Junc 2A of the northbound M73 at 0330 on a Saturday morning whilst travelling at an indicated 72/73mph. Pulled back into the inside lane, thought nothing more of it. That sign (albeit with a 50 rather than 30 sign) precedes a bend at the top of the M73 where it joins the M80. Weather was dry and clear, and given the time of day the road was also clear.
Came off at Junc 4A of the M80 with the police still behind me, dropped my speed to match the revised posted limit, and carried on to a nearby industrial estate to go to work. Police followed me the entire way with me sticking to the posted limits. Pulled me over just short of the office and proceeded to give me a lecture on how I should never overtake a marked police car on the motorway, and that I was speeding round the bend through a 50 limit coming onto the M80. I argued that the limit was an advisory and not mandatory, I was told I was wrong and if I kept my attitude up I would be charged with DWDCA and speeding. I also argued that how could I possibly know what speed a marked police car was doing on the motorway, should I pull over and wait if one is stopped on the hard shoulder for example?
Kept me for around 15 mins, breathalysed me, checked over the car then sent me on my way with a warning that I should be more careful of signed limits and my driving habits on the motorway and that I was lucky they weren't charging me
I've been stopped a few times by the police doing spot checks (commuting at weird times of the day makes me a target for this, a fact I happily accept), but every time the officers have been polite and helpful, we have a quick chat about what I'm doing and where I'm going, working silly shifts then I'm on my way.
I only asked as I knew I was right, had done nothing wrong and don't appreciate having threats of being charged banded about for no reason, but wanted to check!

DWDCA is one of those our word against his offences that they can pretty much issue at will and probably would have done if you had argued some more. I had something similar ages ago for racing a youth in his Corsa me doing 50 him 52 it wasn't a very entertaining race but was on a twisty dual carriageway police chased him with the flashing blue lights and gave me a talking to for encouraging him.
An ex-police driver and trainer told me, when doing a training course for a previous employer, that the Max Speed Limit signs are for vehicles over 7.5T and for everyone else it's the speed limit of the rest of the road.
Page 9 of this official booklet states "inform" for rectangular signs...

Page 21 shows the exact sign and the wording is "Maximum speed advised, in miles per hour, at a bend" so it's not a speed limit - it's advisory as already mentioned.
