I'm in the process of remortgaging as my fixed term is due to end soon. The lenders Solicitor has asked 'who currently holds the Deeds to my property? On checking I see that these were held by the local Solicitors I used when we originally mortgaged with our current lender - We renewed with them after the original term ended so didn't go through all this again.

Now to the question. It seems my local Solicitors closed down due to Administration about 4 years ago, so who will hold the deeds?

Almost certainly nobody. Unless nothing's been touched since the 80s (unlikely if you're remortgaging) the property will be registered at the Land Registry, so any paper deeds are of academic/historical interest only.

Thanks, wonder why the lenders solicitors ask the question then!

Have to agree with this. When I bought my house in 2009, I received a big bundle of paperwork, including all the paper deeds to my house.

Sadly these got stolen a few years later, when some b*****d ripped a safe out of the house. When I contacted the Land Registry to ask the same question as the OP, I was told that they are no longer needed as everything is done electronically these days, and other than for interest reasons, the paperwork is worthless.

Standard question that hasn't been removed despite not really being relevant. The correct answer is "It's registered."
