Wifey Jeep run into 2 1/2 years back, other driver admitted fault & our insurer paid out for our Jeep fine, and said matter closed. I have been putting it down on the other car policy as a no fault claim ever since (policy we made claim via has been running since too with no ammendments, just paid the monthly bill, not very PH I know)

Just got a pickup & started a new policy, and a couple of weeks after the policy started get a letter to say the claim is still open so pay up some more money due to the claim. Seems my insurer and the 3rd parties are still arguing the toss. So what should be the proceedure in this case, do you have to keep saying it is a fault claim until your insurers says they got the money back? Why did it not get pulled up on my other policies I have had? Have the joy of ringing other insurers tomorrow to get my policy adjusted (and expect costs to go up), what is the deal with any comeback on the extra you have to pay on a policy while a claim is being sorted, will you ever get a refund? (I am an optomistic sort I know)

My wife's car was hit by a tractor about 6 years ago and the insurers kept the case going for three years before her insurer gave up and put it down as 50/50 even though the tractor driver admitted liability at the time.
My car was hit by another car in January (it rolled over hand hit mine) I phoned my insurer that night and they started all the "you have to pay your excess etc etc until we claim it back" malarky. I phoned the other party's insurer the day after and thankfully they admitted full liability and had already been trying to contact me to arrange repairs. My own insurer closed the case the day after and i've been dealing directly with the third party insurer since, all finally sorted last week.
Perhaps in hindsight you should have gone directly to the other party's insurer.
One point though is that if it is settled in your favour make sure it's logged as a non fault at renewal time, my insurer conveniently forgot and tried to charge me an extra £160 on another policy that came up for renewal shortly after.

You have to disclose an outstanding non-fault claim (effectively same as fault) until the insurers recover all their costs. Probably didn't get picked up by your existing insurers as not all companies search the claims database, and some only for new customers.

Be prepared that they might ask for a backdated premium increase for the last couple of years though.

Once claim settled you must be given 100% of any extra payment back

that could get expensive! given the pickup is a £300 hike for the year and cheaper than my jeep to insure could be seeing north of a grand outlay.

Well it seems the insurers are arguing the toss over a few hundred quid on the value of our jeep that was written off. My insurers paid out £2000, 3rd party want to pay £1500. This argument has been going on for 2 years! Anyway managed to get a statement that the accident is a none fault claim for me and new insurance broker seems to think that will be enough to please the insurance company.
