Swapping cars between owners (Road tax Q's)
Discussion
A friend and I are planning to swap cars, we both have the same model and the same year (different specs though)
Added complication may be that I want to put my plate on retention to put it on his car at a later date
I think there is no way we can do this without losing one month RFL each , is this correct?
With this in mind is there any point to trying to do this on the late day of the month, first day of the month or any day ?
Both cars are mot'd and insured etc

However you do it the tax man will wind up getting some free months out of you both. Even if you sold it on the 31st they'd probably only refund you from when they get the V5 back.
There is zero way to give anyone a car with tax. I am pretty sure even if the car is zero road tax you still need to tax it!

Even if you do it online, where the notification is instantaneous ? https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle(although it does seem like there's a room full of Blodwens who have to re-type whatever you type - why else would it have limited opening hours ? )
