I was stopped for speeding 6 months ago 104 m.p.h. in a 70 limit by Met traffic officers.
I admitted to the offence on the spot, showed my licence and was told it would be reported and I'd have to either go to court or go on a speed awareness course.
I still haven't heard anything either way, does this mean that nothing is going to happen?

It can take slightly longer than 6 monthS. The 6 months thing is about getting the paperwork to court etc....you probably have to wait another few weeks to be sure

Proceedings must be commenced:

- by written charge and requisition, issued to the defendant (by the prosecutor) within 6 months of the index offence; or
- by written charge and single justice procedure notice, issued as above; or
- by summons, where the information is laid at court no more than 6 months after the index offence; in which case the court may issue the summons to the defendant thereafter.

A speed awareness course was never on the cards for 104/70.

Thanks for the replies.
I guess I'll just have to give it a month or so.

It's only 6 months to get the paperwork into the court, it could be a substantial length of time after before you then get a summons. I've heard of it being over a year although for obvious reasons for all concerned it's better sooner than later.

Not sure what your point is.

I believe that, because it's 2016, it shouldn't take that long given all the technology at our disposal.

I agree it shouldn't. Just that it *could* and that waiting 7 months (after the offence) is no guarantee that you won't get a summons.

A requisition or SJPN is not a summons. Your post assumes the old method will be used, when in my experience the new method is more likely.

If it's over six months, give the court nearest to the offence a call - see if there is a summons in your name (I presume it will be the court nearest the offence)

Wouldn't advise doing this, if they have forgotten and your 'off the hook' then you certainly won't be after this call.

If information hasn't been laid within six months, it is then time barred - hence phoning up after six months does not allow anything to be be backdated and is by far the best way of finding out if anything nasty is going to be hitting the doormat.

I got away with a similar one, 80ish in a 60. Signed the NIP and sent back.

Well, it was about 7 years ago now. Maybe they're still looking for me.

It's still 2016. Information is not laid at court if using the requisition or single justice procedure notice - which since October 2011 is the most likely method of instituting proceedings.

Your repeated "check if an information" post is good for anyone with a time machine.

I'm sure you're right but my instinct would still be to keep my head down.
