Just heard on BBC news that motoring fines will be collected in UK. Can't find a url for it. But this is a result of an EC law change.

If those pussies in government cave into this despite their misgivings on the quality of justice in other parts of the EC, then they really do deserve to be shot!

Whatsmore, the french police have 1 year to inform you that you've been snapped by a radar, compared to 2 weeks in the UK. Surely as long as laws are inconsistent between countries, you can't apply then in a blanket manner. What a load of toss - eurobigbrother.

And you will have to fight it in the courts of the country issuing the fine as well or just pay up.

With supporting documentation being bad in this country, whats it going to be like from another country. It's even more a case of revenue raising.

These links are for the EU driving licence rather than what I referred to which was regarding motoring fines and are more general. Interesting all the same.

Read about this also here in Germany, reported that all fines ABOVE €70 are to be collected throughout EU. ALL EU Countries have to comply within 24 months...in otherwords get flashed on a froggy autoroute, get the points etc on your GB license and still have to pay.....
Eurocommunism is alive and kicking!!!!

There have been suggestions that although the lower limit is £50.00, only significantly larger fines will be pursued.

Pull the other one!

Fines are bad enough, but what about the plan to extend a Continental driving ban to the UK?
Last year the Government signed up - voluntarily - to an EU "Anti-Crime Convention". By signing up, the UK agreed to, among other things, banning from UK driving anyone who is been banned in another signatory state (in other words, pretty much all of Europe).
This might make sense if it applied only to a driver who had been banned in the country that issued his/her licence. That driver should be expected to be wholly familiar with his local language, driving code and justice system.
Where it would make no sense at all is if a British holidaymaker were to drive in, say, Portugal, and get pulled by the local police. The Brit could not be expected to have known the details of the P. driving code, much less the local customs, probably could not explain himself to the copper, would not be in a postition to "respond" if he were being pushed for a contribution to the Lisbon Policemen's Benevolent Association, and would not be able to return to defend himself before the local magistrate at some date in the distant future.
For his crimes, the Brit could well get a Portuguese ban. Not a problem, until the ban was extended to cover UK driving, at which time the Brit would at best be seriously put out and possibly lose his income.
When the Government signed the Convention last year, I was astonished to see that this outrageous intrusion into the British legal system got nothing more than momentary, lackadaisical media notice.
