Driving without a licence - how long to hear?
Discussion
A chap I know had to surrender his licence on medical grounds. However one day last autumn he took his car out, and not only that but he managed to go past a speed camera well in excess of the speed limit.
He has since been to court for the speeding offence and been fined and banned (which is immaterial since he won't be able to drive for some time anyway)
His solicitor said that he should expect to hear from the police about driving without a licence etc; but so far he has heard nothing. How much time do they have to act, at what time can he start to think that no further action is being taken?

Not particularly immaterial. Driving without a licence is a much less serious offence than driving whilst banned.TooMany2cvs said:

Its about five months since the offence, what sort of time has to pass before he can feel that no further action is being taken?

He is not out of the woods yet. See post #3 here - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...BrumBrumDuffy said:

Section 6 of the RTOA 1988 applies to the aforementioned offences. Therefore, 6 months from the date of discovery of the offence - subject to an absolute limit of 3 years; see below for the precise wording.http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/53/sectio...
