Earlier today:

A employs B for small cash as hes a teenager (18)
A rents a car and puts B on insurance for a journey
B is driving with A as passenger and they are rear ended by C who is injured but only slightly
A apologises to C and says it was B's fault (WTF?) due braking too quick
Bib attend and aren't really interested as C shouldn't have been so close

so...

Is it A's rental insurance and C's insurance that sort it out or does anything come onto B's own separate car insurance and is there any direct claim against B from anyone due to A's admission?

Surely that's all irrelevant as neither A nor B own the car - hand it over to the car rental company and let them deal with it. I can't imagine they'd be wanting it dealt with any other way and it is no doubt made clear in the rental contract.

A is a knobend
C is at fault
Insurance company of Rentco should deal with C Party insurance.

The end.

^ I know. B is my son in law and very upset by the whole thing. Ok it was his fault, but A was on a Truth Mission and it was the wrong time for it!

How was it his fault for being hit by the car behind? Did he brake test them?

Wrong. It is NOT his fault, he was rear-ended by C, therefore it is C's fault.

No, it wasn't his fault. It was C's fault.

There could be a degree of liability on B (i.e. brake testing C, cash for crash etc). Full circumstances would dictate & it's up to the insurance companies to sort it.
B would inform his own insurers at his insurance renewal of change in circumstances, i.e. that he was involved in a collision during the past year.

And just to start things off, B will need to tell his insurance company about the accident next time he renews..

Hmm the only occasion in living memory where I get to say this smile

I think you might be wrong von, cos don't he have to tell his insurance company straight away?

Not if he's claiming on a different policy. He needs to tell his own insurer at renewal.

BTW, who is this self drive hire firm that agrees to cover 18 year olds?

A told C it was because B braked suddenly, so B believes he is at fault and the world is about to end.

A is an asshole who need a smack.

B needs to contact Rentco insurance and let them take over.

C caused the accident and is liable.

What A said to C doesn't matter as it's only opinion and I don't think it'll stand legally.

B needs to cease associating with A if they're that much of a dhead.

Yes it seems to be a problem, obviously no one should admit any liability by the roadside so A shouldn't have admitted it on B's behalf. Bib weren't over bothered which put B's mind at rest to a point, but he's as worried as hell hes going to have a big problem as a result.
I will give him all your reassurances

If Rentco insurance have agreed to cover an 18 year old, I'll eat my licence!
