No contact after stating I was the driver
Discussion
Hi
I would appreciate some feedback. I received a NIP for speeding about a year ago. I provided my details and opted for the speed awareness course ( it was a 35 in a 30). Since then I haven't anything regarding either the course or a conviction with three points. I had pretty much forgotten about it until I had to check my licence for a hire car and nothing showed on the DVLA website either. Do I take the attitude "Don't run towards a fight" and hope I've slipped through the net or am I risking the local swot team coming through my front door at six am ?
Is it my responsibility to chase or is it down to them to progress?

Thanks for the responses
I don't want to drop myself in it if I'm o.k. However I didn't fancy the prospect of being stopped on a routine check on the Motorway and finding out my licence was suspended. Its only three points and I'm not disputing the fact I was speeding so want to give having to go underground to avoid the inevitable nationwide man hunt for my sorry arse, a miss lol S11Steve said:
Have you changed address, or changed cars/RK address of the same car in that time?
As above, there is 6 months from the offence to charge the driver, beyond this, it is outside the statutory time limits (or a similar type of phrase).
No lived here for years, licence and V5 all correct. When you say charge. Does that mean physically hand on shoulder your going to court sunny Jim or letter? The time limit to commence proceedings has passed, but that won't stop an idiot posting something stupid about laying an information. Meanwhile, back in 2016...I would appreciate some feedback. Have you checked your licence online?
Yes checked two days ago, it shows as all ok with the exception of three expired points from the time the Metropolitan Police decided that actually it's not "good to talk" particularly while your driving around Staples Corner
I've covered just short of a quarter of a million miles over the last four years. So I'm quietly pleased that the scammera van b
ds, havent got me more often.Take yourself to a police station, and take a mate with you. Have your phone in your pocket on 'record'.
A few years ago I'd bought an old E reg Sierra Estate from an auction as a runabout whilst I was doing a house up. It had 4 months tax.....but it transpires that the disc was from another car and erased (soaked overnight in brake fluid) and re-written. Had a pull from plod and upon checking the disc, the two eager young piglets arrested me, took me to the local station where I was put in a cell before being questioned and released after 5 hours.
"We'll be in touch".
Well, I heard nothing, apart from them sending a letter asking me to attend again - which I did, to be told it had been postponed. After that....nothing. My mistake was to not follow this up.
But nearly 2 years later I was stopped for speeding and informed that there was an outstanding warrant out for my arrest. I f
king kid you not. Arrested again, taken to a police station, held overnight in a cell before being transported 150 miles in the back of a squad car (unmarked Vectra) to the original station that arrested me. Was charged with tax disc theft, jumping bail or whatever and taken directly to the local magistrates who fined me £150. Apparently, they were unable to contact me as I'd moved house. In court, my solicitor asked the copper......... "if you didn't know where my client lived, how did you know who he was when stopped for speeding?". I had changed cars a year before. They couldn't answer.
The judge was okay, fined me just for the tax disc and kicked the other charges out. What this episode cost the taxpayer I dread to think.
Of course, writing to the PPA (police protection authority) got me nowhere.
This might sound like tin foil hat stuff, but just go to the police station, get a name/rank and keep it on record.
