A74(M)/M6 Lockerbie Crackdown
Discussion
Seems there is a bit of an operation on at the moment to catch out speeders in this area...
Was caught myself on Sunday PM (they were hiding on the Lockerbie southbound sliproad). 3PTS and £100 for me.
Then saw the same chaps stopping another southbound car on my way back north this afternoon in around the same place.
Car is a marked 330d Touring Reg SF14HHA.
Take care if heading to Edinburgh or the south...

A bit of a hassle, having to keep trawling the forums all the time to see if there are any 'speeding crackdowns' on any of the roads that you're planning to drive on. I wonder if there's an easier way of ensuring that you don't get caught? One that would also make the roads safer?
If you're going to be selfish enough to select an activity that is as needlessly dangerous to others as careering unpredictably around public spaces in heavy metal containers when you have no professional training to do so, don't you have a duty to at least somewhat reduce the risk to others, unacceptably high though it will of course still be? I know that several regular posters to this forum agree with me on this, even if some are reluctant to say so explicitly for fear of being bullied.
The uncomfortable truth is that almost everybody is too stupid, incompetent and reckless to be able to drive a motor vehicle on public roads with anything like an acceptable degree of safety. Yet, incredibly, society not only encourages ordinary members of the public to participate in this deadly activity, it also encourages them to do it as impatiently and wantonly as possible, and even frequently makes light of this! The body bags may be needlessly piling up, day in, day out, but that's OK because it's funny! And of course Mr Fat Company Director has to go to the doctor's today, and yes there's a bus, but don't be silly, he can't be seen on that!

Body bags piling up. That made me chuckle
The number of people killed by speed alone is so so small. More people are killed falling down the stairs for example than in all car accidents, speeding or not. Appropriate speed does not kill anyone.

Were you trained to talk b
ks or does it just come naturally?Though I am impressed by your ability to know what anonymous internet posters think, even though they've never written it. Perhaps that's a common skill on your planet.

Or indeed paramedics, of which I am one. I've seen many RTCs thanks and very very very few were caused by speed alone.
Would you agree that the accidents that happen at higher speeds have worse consequences than those that happen at lower speeds, assuming every other factor stays the same?CarsAreBad2572 said:

This is a genuine question. Why do you allow numbskulls like this on this forum? He is clearly not well and should not be allowed out, either literally or on the web. I was under the impression fro several years now that this was a forum for those who like motor cars; am I wrong? Have I been working under an illusion for these past few years, or has this site degraded to the point where we tolerate this kind of individual who simply spoils it for others?
His statements go way beyond the realms of having a considered opinion and just serve to irritate the hell out of everyone else.

Back on topic.....
On one of their last 'crackdowns' and was using the route a lot, would often see plod laid up at the southbound VOSA checkpoint - passenger door open, laser resting on the roof and then in the D&G area not more than a few miles further south, another marked plod in a police parking 'hump', again the same MO of passenger door open and laser pointed north. Actually think it was intentional - those passing the first would assume on the balance of probability they wouldn't see another speed check for quite some miles but boom...... Oh, and then a few miles further south was a camera van on the over bridge!!
Just not worth speeding on that route really - or at least keep the speed in the realms of sensible and under the radar as it were.

A bit daft to speed on that road. It's been swarming with coppers for years. I remember doing 110 down there near the Dumfries turn-off when I was a teenager and seeing an unmarked car light up. Luckily for me he was pulling somebody going just as fast but in a van! Safe to say I slowed myself down from then onwards but that was the operating speed of the road a number of years ago. You will get caught quite quickly if you do the road regularly and can't keep to the speed limit nowadays.
