Contemplating expanding the business fleet

thinking of a 7.5 tonne truck - IIRC I will need an operators licence - How? Where?

Towman/DVD/Gone/SC any advice appreciated.

Anything over 3.5t gvw requires an Operators Licence. This includes a 3.5t van with a goods trailer.

You will need a transport manager who holds a CPC (Certificate of Professional Competance). You cannot outsource this responsibility to another company.

I am assuming that the truck will be used to carry goods, and not some sort of equipment fixed to it (generator, cherry picker etc)

As Towman states over 3.5 tonnes plated, Operators Licence required when a Goods vehicle is used for the carriage of goods, either for Hire and Reward, or in connection with the owners trade or business.

Three types:

Standard International (anything national/internationsal)

Standard National (Hire and reward etc in UK)

Restricted (trade or business and not Hire and reward).

Now these delightful bits of paper are issued by VOSA and all is revealed - how/when/why/cost etc, at:

Enjoy.

A good source of Info is the Owner and Fleet Operator forum on Trucknetuk
http://trucknetuk.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=4&sid=3faf17f6fbda6f5ad7339f2f0ed4a82f

BTW, CPC Courses are seriously expensive!!
