A black footballer called something penant has been sent down for 3 months for DUI whist DISQ. That is surely red rag to a bull as far as magistraites go. This surely must mean that if you are driving whilst DISQ but not drunk you are not going to prison?

Pennant was arrested in January after he was spotted in a car park in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, driving a Mercedes with a lamp post dragging beneath it
What a pr*ck: 2.5 times over the limit.

The sentence is too lenient: that could well have been a pedestrian instead of a lamp post; he didn't even notice anyway. I don't know too many lampposts which are buried in the road, so I conclude he mounted the pavement at some point.

Agree far too lenient - and the club were hoping for a lighter sentence. so that he could continue paying FFS!

No sympathy whatsover....

This sends the wrong message to the public and scrotes -3 months for drunk driving on it's own is bad enough, the fact that he did it whilst disqualified just shows that he beleives himself above the law! He will probably only serve about 30 minutes of his sentence and be let out for good behaviour, and be back behind the wheel by rush hour......

I think the fact that he was towing a lamp post behind his car, then provided false details may also have contributed to the beak handing down an extended B&B stay...

I also liked the way Steve Bruce said that a custodial sentence would do the player no good. No, but it might do the public some good keeping them safe from him!

edited to say Ashley Cole's details, in fact.

Hes been in and out of trouble for most of his career. Wenger pushed him off to Leeds on a loan to calm him down, looks like it didn't work.

Don't just judge him on the amount of money he earns. Theres more to life.

as if he/they couldn't afford* a cab. christ, he and his sort, they could hire a limo for the night. anyways, what's a professional sportsman (sic) doing getting p*ssed during the season?

what a silly bugger.

*ps, not that a lack of money would justify getting p*ssed and then driving. you know what i mean. having money and still doing it just makes it all the more dumb.

Holy shit.

A friend of mine recently got done for drink driving and got banned for 16 months with over 1k fine. What kind of message does that send out?

Justice system? Corrupt lottery more like.

Note it's not a 3 month ban, its 3 months inside. He already had a 16 month ban for a previous offence, although this was reduced because he went on a course . Obviously learned a lot on the course.

On TV news this morning an Asylum seeker with no Licence, No insurance etc Driving whilst Drunk and killed a child got 2 months inside so it seems that justice is indeed a lottery. FFS speeders (where there was no victim) have had more severe sentences

I note that the BRAKE spokesperson couldn't resist adding a Speeding comment to the end of her segment despite the fact the death was caused by an unlicensed, drunk driver with no insurance!

She even commented that he 'was probably speeding'.

Indeed in their quest to increase penalties what we will inevitably end up with is harsher penalties for speeding and the status quo for 'real' motoring crimes.

And the best of it this guy has had his asylum application chucked out 4 times and now he is to appeal again whilst in prison - he'll probably get it granted now due to this publicity and he'll become a British 'citizen' - what a prize catch and worthy addition to our country
