Parking Ticket from Council
Discussion
A bit of a strange one but this must happen on occasions.
We live in a residential street with permit parking for residents. There's space for around 15 cars or so. At either end of the street there are two, 2 hour spots for visitors and permit holders are not supposed to park in them, again for any more than 2 hours (i.e. we can't use them as an overflow if there are no permit spaces left).
My wife parked our car in one for longer than 2 hours (no permit spaces left) and acknowledges she did this. However, when she went to the car next, there was no parking ticket on the window so she thought all was well.
We received a letter from the Council last night saying that we had not paid a parking ticket from 20 April 2016 in the sum of £50 and that they now required payment.
My wife admits she parked there for longer than 2 hours - that's not the issue; she'd have been happy to pay the fine.
The issue is that there was nothing stuck on the car when she returned to it and hence she hasn't been given the opportunity to pay the reduced fine of £25 if you pay within so many days. Had she seen the ticket, she would have paid it. It was either removed by someone or gone missing in some other way.
Anyone encountered this before? Will the Council be willing to still take the reduced charge of £25 as payment?

Off topic slightly, you pay for a permit to park and are not guaranteed a parking space?
Common on-street policy. We pay £35 a year which entitles us to park anywhere in Zone C. The parking spaces opposite our house are for Zone C permit holders (unrestricted time) and anyone else (up to two hours). With a college less than half a mile away it's often full during working hours.Riley Blue said:

Wow, I think I'd want a numbered bay if it was like that and I had to pay

The other 1% my wife parks where she likes and forgets about it.

Maybe that is going a bit far, but if I had to pay anything at all for a parking permit I'd expect the guarantee of there being adequate parking for all permit holders.
It's a contentious issue where we live. Not helped at all by the fact that the Council have just approved 20 new flats round the corner from us and allowed them all parking permits without increasing the number of permit spaces. Don't you just love County Council's!PanzerCommander said:

Register with peopioo.com ( its fre) and post it up in theCouncil thread. There might well be a fatal flaw in the ticket,However
Answer all quetions truthfully, they can smell a wrong un a mile off
Ask them how to post up the ticket/letter normally its with all your personl details redacted ,but you must leave in certain bits. and follow their instructions and advice to the letter. If you are 'bang to rights' they will tell you that, but if there is a bit the ouncil have missed out, and you will be amazed how many still do despite sucesful appeals, you could ave yourself some cash. at the nd of the day it is up to you, they can only advise. But you have nothing to lose by doing so.

The two of us have four cars between us, the couple next door have three. On the other hand, we might all have none - which scenario should be catered for?
Its an interesting conundrum to be honest and I have no real answer to it. I would just resent paying for something of that type (regardless of whether its £30 or £300) that I am not guaranteed (I am a northerner don't forget), I guess I am quite lucky having a driveway.silverfoxcc said:
