Purchased a car with a police marker on it.
Discussion
I purchased a second hand Mini to use as arunabout three weeks ago. Lovely car, excellent condition. HPI clear, bought from a private ad on Gumtree.
Was on the motorway near Leeds last week and got pulled.
Turns out the car has a police marker on it as a similar vehicle was used in an attempted burglary with cloned plates. Tried to get the marker removed by Somerset & Avon Police, but they won't do it until theyfindthe cloned vehicle which obviously could never happen.
Police have put a note on the system sayin I live in the Milton Keynes area, but can easily get stopped if I go out of area...
Anybody with any suggestions apart from sell the car?

Put a piston heads sticker on the boot , you won't get stopped and you're contributing to the site 😃Was on the motorway near Leeds last week and got pulled.

Speak to Police and put a recognisable sticker in the windscreen or some other identifying feature. That's what we do
Need to put something on the VRM plate itself - strip of masking tape across one corner would be idealelroy's suggestion is good, defcon5's suggestion is a 'pull me' magnet suggestion ...

Are those "Police follow this car" or "Police, follow this car".
I've always wondered.
Both - they act as a deterrant to thieves by suggesting that police cars will follow it "just because", and signals to police that if they signal it to pull over it won't stop at the road side but will drive to a police station before stopping. The idea is that by doing this they are protected against roadside attacks by crims driving stolen/fake police cars.I've always wondered.

Maybe something that clearly identifies you as not worthy of police attention? How about something rodent like and in a dark colour, easily available on eBay and making claims to prevent exactly what is happening? Or perhaps that'll make a tug even more likely Sorry to hear about that mate!
Father-in-law had a marker on his 5.0 CLS a couple of years ago. Although we can't be certain I think possibly it was initially reported via someone living in the local estate, which contributed to the first two stops. A couple of months later he was also caught speeding (85 on the M74; driving safely but over the speed limit, no arguments with that). After that it was almost a weekly occurrence. Twice in one day with the same patrol car but different officers. In the end he sold it unfortunately.
I'm not too sure if there is anything that can be done to prevent the stops unfortunately!
