Feeling dumb so thought I'd ask on here...

Situation - A house originally (40+ yrs ago) had a name rather than a number, call it "A" (too remote and sparsely populated to have numbers). Mortgage was under name "A". A decade or so later, the house name was changed to "B", but the mortgage account wasn't changed as it was nearly paid off so not worth bothering with. Now need to prove that the house is unencumbered. The redemption statement is in name "A", only things like utility bills are in name "B".

Property has never been put on land registry as it hasn't had title transferred in 40 years. How do you prove that property known as "A" listed on mortgage redemption statement is the exact same property now known as "B" you want to prove is unencumbered?!

So the old deeds are with it. They'll include a map, which shows the extent of the plot.

Deeds are... being sought tongue out any other ways?

Then you've got a whole extra can of worms on your hands, and you really are going to need professional help.

Presumably you can get a statement from the Mortgagees and a statement from Royal Mail that the address has been changed. I'd have thought if it needs to be more 'legal' than that then you might need sign a declaration at a solicitors or at worst provide an indemnity.
