Had a load come off a trailer thanks to one of our moron drivers. Other guy rang his insurance but we will be settling privately as it's not worth the claim for us. My insurance brokers are aware but not bothered and nothing logged.

I've had nothing but calls from ambulance chasers and they must have got number and details from the 3rd party insurance (Admiral)..

Mega unhappy.

There *might* be scope for a complaint to the ICO about breach of DPA.

No police or HA involved? Press? Lots of ways people might find out, I'd think.

common practice for insurance companies to sell to "ambulance chaser" who then claim against the insurance companies that push up our premiums. Totally mad.

You can't do much about it READ THE SMALL PRINT IN YOUR POLICY.

As you imply, it wouldn't make sense to do that. Have you any evidence?

Why would you be getting calls when your driver was at fault? You have no opportunity to claim off the other driver.

People who haven't been in accidents get these calls, as someon said no one will have bought your info as you can't claim off anyone. Just tell them to get a proper job and hang up.

Insurance companies cannot sell your details for marketing crap, but they can pass your details to other companies who may be able to help you, like provide a hire car even if technically your policy doesn't cover one.

I certainly have - about 4 times. I always respond that yes, I was in an accident, but I was killed. I then ask if I can still claim - they usually hang up!

I'd heard it was often the accident repair shops selling the details, but that doesn't make sense in this case.

OP, first line of defence is Telephone Preference Service. It works for businesses too.

Unfortunately there is no way to get rid of these scumbags, I had a minor non fault accident and for the next 18 months I got in the region of 7 calls a day, every day. I tried everything, it seemed to be a different company every time so how do you chase that down? I got a new number in the end and now my phone is blissfully silent

We were inundated with these after the missus had a minor altercation with a bollard in a car park. Not sure who they were planning to pursue given it was a single car at fault claim, but when I tried to dig into what they knew about it they only knew the date and hid behind the DPA. Tried asking how they got our number and mentioning TPS and asking to be taken off their databases but with limited success.

They must have got bored now as it's been a couple of weeks since the last one wink

I had an old chap in a brand new Merc reverse in to the back of my car in a motorway services about 5 years ago.

I had parked in a sea of empty spaces as I was making a call to a client. Literally 100 empty spaces around me so managing to hit me was quite a feat!

End result - insurance paid for a bumper respray and a new parking sensor.

Then the calls started......third parties: did I want to claim for my injuries?

Injuries from an accident that made a gentle 'thwock' sound and barely pushed in a parking sensor?

"Are you sure you weren't injured? Was your neck okay afterwards'?" and the most blatant "we have a doctor who could detect the injury, you may not even be aware of it"

In the end I found saying take me off your database, or trying to block numbers on my mobile was less entertaining than exaggerating the accident and seeing how far I could take it before they twigged,

I had three helicopters there to fly my body parts to the hospital, my neck is still broken and I'm using a mind controlled phone as I'm totally paralysed, 80% of my skin was burned off and I have to be wheeled around in a saline bath....

One girl was very sympathetic as I explained how the impact caused my head to be severed from my body by the seatbelt.

Equally, I've been sworn at - told to stop wasting our fking time etc etc.

Got several companies to set up appointments with doctors - I just started to go along with everything they said...answering yes to every question.

I always asked - have you got details of the accident in front of you? If they said yes (lying I think) it was game on.

After two years the calls stopped.

OP, these calls will go on for years. Believe me. I am still getting calls, almost on a weekly basis, for an accident I was involved in back in 2010 (two cars ago!) and I wasn't injured, not even a scratch. My car wasn't even moving and it was a no-fault on my part!

This!

Treat it as a sport for idiotic entertainment.

Works best in an office on loudspeaker, so others can hear as well.
