garage repair costs - liability consumer protection?
Discussion
Hi, just looking for some advice, as to whether I can potentially challenge garage repair costs.
2 weeks a go I had my car repaired by a reputable specialist. the repair included replacing the clutch master cylinder, removing gearbox and replacing the slave cylinder seals. I have AA repair cover and they settled part of the repair costs with the garage. 1 week and 150 miles later, my car broke down again, and this time all clutch fluid was dropped from the clutch slave cylinder. The AA patrol diagnosed it as a slave cylinder issue with the seals again.
I ll be taking the car back to the same garage (I have already notified them, and they also suggested seal issue). Is it reasonable for me to expect them to repair for free as either the slave was not sealed properly or the seals used were defective.
Thanks

Of course they should do it free of charge.Just fitting seals has not cured the problem,they should have replaced the complete slave cylinder.
Absolutely.TBH, I'm surprised they didn't in the first place - are the slaves particularly expensive or hard to obtain?
<quick google>
Assuming this is the Cerb, then they appear to be cheap and in stock. Even dafter to try a re-seal, then.

hi thanks for your responses. I think the slave is about £200, in any case I didn't request for it to be resealed or replaced, left it to the garage to do the job as they see fit. I am hoping they will be reasonable and rectify it
Ah, yes. The one I'd found for £30 was for Rover-engined.http://www.racetechdirect.co.uk/q0315-and-16-and-1...

So re-sealing makes more sense - a little extra labour (minutes) and a few quid in parts cost, versus several hundred quid in parts cost. I'd expect you to be at least contributing to the difference in parts cost, then, but no labour.
