Just bought a N.I. registered car on a GRZ N.I. plate, how long/what cost would it take to get a proper 13 plate off DVLA?

Its never been in the N.I. except from the dealer, al its services have been here in the UK and it drives perfect..

TIA

or i could change my name to make it a personal plate but the Z hard....

If you buy a plate - all the costs are set out on the DVLA website. They don't as a rule re-register NI cars in the mainland, the plate it has is good enough. At the time of the troubles, though folk did get cars re-registered for free - if they asked. I knew someone who did just that as he was fed up of being stopped by the police culminating in being stopped 3 times on his way back from evening shift. Was circa 30 years ago though.

AFAIK, nothing, or at least not much.

I registered a GB car in NI when I moved here. I was offered the chance to change the VRM to a Norn Iron one but didn't bother. The impression I got was that they'd provide one FOC if I wanted to.

I've got a van with NI plates (in Scotland), never caused me the slightest issue, why bother changing?

write to DVLA saying you wish to revoke the 'cherish' plate and they will auto issue an age related plate at no cost.

The issue used to be the other way round , despite the fact that the RUC and MHF vehicles that pretended to be civilian were on NI plates ...

When my mate from Fermanagh brought his family pride & joy Lada Samara over to England in the early 90s his insurance company required it to be re-registered. Thankfully things are more peaceful in NI now, but that car did need to be blown up.
