To be fair, the UK road death rate actually went up last year, despite the scamera onslaught. Maybe they foresee that trend continuing?

The fall in the annual road death stats coincided uncannily with the increase in speed enforcement by automated means and decrease in traffic police. No doubt they will try to blame the last 2 years' increases in deaths on speed!

It's not the speed it's the idiots behind the wheel that are the problem, cameras can't identify them. I'm in favour of mass extermination of middle lane hoggers, women drivers of a certain age with an unnatural fixation about their hair and ANYONE who thinks 37 mph is a reasonable speed to take a series of lovely swoopy bends at. Get rid of that little lot and the accident numbers would plummet,ergo problem solved.
