My freinds cars been hit. Third party insurers have requested repair costs. The cars worth £580. The repair qoute is £900. Ouch for a door. I can do the job for £250. I understand that the VIC Test no longer exsists. There for if car classed Cat C Do we need to do anything or just agree a pay out price or should we ask for cash settlement. To be honest. We have no.intention off repairing vehicle. Cause its an old banger

Where did you get the value of £580 from, is this from the TP Insurers or is it your own estimate?

Surely if the insurer is faced with a choice of writing off and paying out £580 or paying out £250 for a repair contribution, they'd take the cheaper option. Depends if they have a duty to write off the car though?

The insurer has an obligation to follow the correct process for writing off a car if they deal with it as a total loss claim, they are under no obligation to deal with it as a total loss.

Why if you have no intention of repairing the car. Trouser their £580 and put it towards a newer better car. You'd be mad to accept £250

If you take the full payout the insurer will take the cars, keys and V5C and send it to their breaker wher they will get a fixed fee for the car. I'd bet the net payout is less for them than letting you keep the car and giving you £250

last time we bought a damaged transit back on a cat C the insurance wanted 10% of the payout back to keep it. Is that around the same for cars?

I'm sure there is something about having to have a new MOT done before putting a Cat C back on the road. Regardless of when the last one was done

yes, we had to have a fresh MOT done on our transit.
