Happy new year! Just today been notified by car rental company that I committed a traffic violation whilst on holiday in August. From what I can gather I entered a ZTL zone in Bellagio (Un-aware of restriction, rookie error) They have passed my details to the authorities and will be charging me €45 for their trouble.

Does anyone know what the actual fine is likely to be? The rental company say they received the notification 12/12/2016 and have only today informed me so any early payment discount period is by now likely long gone.

I knew that holiday was too good!

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

I owe Hertz 40EUR I think for a violation in Spain. Had one letter a month or so after it happened in January 2014 and not heard anything since. Rented from Hertz UK since too.

It's the Rental company charging me €45 fee for passing my information onto the police authority who have issued the fine. I have no idea how much the actual fine is. I guess I'll have to wait for the Italian govt to send me a letter.

We got the same from Europcar. Took the EUR 45 from our credit card.

It was a violation in Bologna. Eventually received a fine (EUR 90'ish I think) from the Bologna authorities. All in Italian using traffic code violation numbers rather than description. Google translation was little help and searching for on line details of code violation numbers was unsuccessful.

We paid up as the fine escalates substantially for any delayed payment. We do plan to visit Italy again.

Hope you don't hear any more but it was around 12 months after our visit that we got the actual fine!!!

This was a visit in August and I do plan on paying up, expensive mistake but I don't want it following me around. Hope my fine isn't too hefty when it arrives.
