Can scameras of the various types pickup a vehicle towing? On Friday I was trailing the boat from Falmouth to an event at Grafham water. I had got boxed in by lorries having limitter wars, and at the point where I thought it wasn't safe to be there dropped to fourth, and pulled into lane 3 (3 lane M-way). We were on a slight right hand bend so I could see there was nothing approaching in lane 3.

I know that when towing you aren't meant to exceed 60mph or travel in the outside lane.

I accelerated to just under 70 to get passed the lorry ahead of me, and in the process passed a truvelo camera. My question is, can the camera detect that I was towing and "get" me?

A Truvelo has a fixed trigger speed, irrespective of the type of vehicle. The 'axle sensors' in the road cannot determine the type of vehicle.

I once saw a lorry trigger a Truvelo; it was the only time I've seen one of these flash twice.

Don`t tell me that you are the one person who puts a number plate on a trailer? I bet it`s the same as the towing vehicle as well.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I do have the correct number-plate on the trailer, though part of it may be hidden to a scamera by the mast which rests above the trailer board.

Every semi-trailer I tow has the same numberplate. Belongs to an MAN Tractor unit which went back to Ryders yonks ago.

This is of course pure fabrication. I am a law abiding citizen etc etc etc.

Usually, but not always. We have one in Portsmouth which can be swung around to take front or rear photos (needs two sets of sensors though)
