Can anyone help with this.

I run a motorcycle repair and MOT station. I am covered by tradex insurance brokers. December 13th My company van was stolen from the street near my home address.
Police and insurance notified next day.
The 15th police found the van abandoned 5 miles from my home. I went to recover the van, police were there waiting. Thieves had got in and started it without damage.
The van started and ran. After it got to operating temp the oil light came on and shortly after cut out. Engine oil level fine.
I managed to coast the van into a pub car park. At which time ive called the insurance, and stated I want to make a claim.

I waited until Thursday 19th and then have called to see whats happening. The people dealing with the claim(clegg Clifford) have then sent me a letter arriving Friday 20th, saying they have assessed the van and there is nothing wrong with the van, and they are retuning it to me,and I should not make a claim to predjudice my premium next year.( I believe I have protected no claims)
It has been delivered back to me today(over a month later) covered in dirt, yellow scribble all over it (with the date it was assessed being 19 dec) and totally flat battery's.

So in summery, my van was stolen and damaged, I asked to make a claim, the vehicle then is returned over a month later,in a worse condition than after it was stolen.

Id like to persue the insurers interruption of business and Id like the van repaired to a proper standard.

protected no claim doesn't stop your premium rising...

insurance = £1,000 / NCD = 50% - bill = £500
you claim
insurance = £1,500 / NCD is protected so stays at 50% - bill = £750

You should go through the insurer's formal complaint process first. It'll be detailed in the docs, or else ask them.

I'm not too sure why you think you have a claim.

Van stolen. Van later recovered seemingly with no damage to it whatsoever. You start it and drive it off at which point it cuts out. What's to say it wouldn't have cut out and needed some repairs doing to it regardless of the theft?

Maybe the thief who stole it abandoned it because it also cut out on him and was not use to him.

The yellow scribble you refer to I assume is that yellow pen they use to write on vehicles in used car lots. It will wash off, as will the dirt.

Why don't you just take it to a garage and get the issue fixed? If the garage say's it's been abused by the thief and that's what has caused the engine problems, you can then think about going to the insurers again or the ombudsman.

Tradex are not insurance brokers, they are an insurance company. Clegg Gifford are brokers, who deal exclusively with Tradex. Tradex is owned by Mr Clegg, of Clegg Gifford.

Tradex are the trade insurance equivalent of Ryan air, you get what you pay for and these bandits are notorious for being difficult in the event of a claim - even a straight forward claim.

Good luck .

Very generous. I'd say Tradex make Ryan Air look like Emirates first class.

I once wrote a polite letter of complaint as a broker (Who used them) to Tradex, the kind of letter most bosses would appreciate to improve their company. I received a personal letter back from Roy Clegg, it was incredibly rude and off hand.

If you had seen the letter you would understand why their staff are so surly and why as a company they treat their customers in the way they do.

I dispair when my potential customers or existing customers take out cover with them as I know they will regret it if they ever make a claim.
